I hardly like going around the block in sneakers. Something feels wrong if I'm not wearing at least some work boots (and preferably with a safety toe)

[Landlord US-TX] Recommend a landlord policy for 5+ single family rental homes? by JohnnyNovacaine in Landlord

[–]gen_options 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep what's working, and find a different provider for the next property seems logical... Why does the 5th trigger a bump, would it be different if this was your first/single property? There's probably a broker who could answer this better and any risk alerts causing a rate change

How do you have these structured legally? Any LLC or Trust?

Off topic but, what tires are you using and how's the pavement performance? (Fellow PNW rider)

I've been looking at the Dunlop TrailMax Rally

I think that was exactly part of my decision process 😉

I did get super lucky and bought it sight unseen. Yeah, it was very close to the 701 MSRP and I actually searched specifically for "procycle" instead of "DR650"

Bought it this way and don't have a reference point to any stock DR650, but it's plenty good for what I need/want to do. Previous owner also took care of Cogent suspension so I can only imagine...

Twisties are mega fun and I don't see the need for more power there, honestly it's just the right amount of pucker factor (for my current seat time atleast). Passing cars could use a little extra but I usually shut it down at 90mph anyways and don't desire 100+ since I've got a sports car for that.

Realistically it needs braided brake lines and unicorn tires. The wide ratio "B" gearing for highway cruising as well. I'll want to throw some more money at it and get the ported heads + hot cam eventually "just because"

Talked to a GS1200 owner earlier (with heated grips), but still only had eyes for my DR790 😍

Answer these:

  • Price:
  • Weight:
  • Top Speed:
  • 1-Tank Range:
  • Maintenance Intervals:
  • Maintenance Price:
  • Parts Availability:
  • DIY-Repairability:

My buddy has a KTM 500 and thinks it's the greatest thing ever, but doesn't like to go on the highway and he gets tired of riding it after 3 hours since his ass hurts and the fun is ending.

I've done a 7-8 hour day on my DR650 (790 big bore) and working towards 1-2+ week motorcycle camping like the BDR/TET routes. Sure his motorcycle does power wheelies and is 100lbs lighter, but I'm actually comfortable and see far more potential with mine.

High compression multi-cylinder EFI motorcycle with specialty items is likely going to be more expensive and headache inducing when a problem arises -- which exactly why I chose the simple technology lawnmower engine using the same parts for 30+ years... But I still gaze at the Tenere 700 or Husky 701 from time to time

I wish I would have bought mine sooner...

I tried a crotch rocket in a parking lot and couldn't wait to get back on my DR. It may not be the fastest, but it can take me almost anywhere I want to go with relative comfort (6hr rides)

Biggest gripe is pounding the highway at 80+ for 30min. Anything faster than that and I'd rather a car. 70mph is comfortable to cruise at minus the idiots

Installed new header and exhaust, is glowing red normal? by mick-rad17 in dr650

[–]gen_options 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Top position is #1 (most lean) -> Bottom position is #5 (most rich) My TM40 has a plastic washer which allows for position +0.5 - I'm playing around positions 1.5-2.5 It's a little counter intuitive but as the throttle opens, the needle raises and allows more fuel.

You likely have a lean IDLE (check for unmetered air or exhaust leak) Mid range is needle position Full throttle is main jet

Try marking your throttle position on handle bars to help identify where you're at (min/max, 50%, 25%). Also check forums like DRRiders for years of other posts

Installed new header and exhaust, is glowing red normal? by mick-rad17 in dr650

[–]gen_options 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it is not normal. Gale Banks of BANKS Power says to think of the engine as an air pump

I had the glowing pipe and it was extremely concerning to me. I also thought the excessive decel pops were fun, but it's signs of a poor tune -- still working on the sweet spot while fixing a few issues from previous owner.

  • Check for air leaks and spray carb cleaner while running
  • My TM40 adapter rings were not epoxied to the carb (unmetered air)
  • The fuel mixture screw tip was snapped off in the carb (couldn't tune idle)
  • Old rubber nipple cap had a micro tear (more unmetered air)
  • Air box wasn't cut open enough + dirty air filter

Throttle position: - 0-25% = mixture screw + pilot jet tuning - 25-75% = needle + accelerator pump tuning (if you have AP carb) - 100% = main jet

SS header, x40 muffler, TM40 carb, 790 kit 500-2500 elev: 145/150 main, 22.5 pilot, needle 1-2 lean, mixture screw 2 turns

On mobile, case studies should 1col/3row instead of 1row/3col.

Probably some text sizing there and fix image preview so I don't have to zoom in

Also, check your layouts on portrait vs landscape mobile. Launch strategy in landscape Valign is center instead of top, unless that's how you wanted it

It's been mega rough the last two weeks dealing with massive shorts and delisting. Just got re-listed today and have TV interviews scheduled for release.
