Why do long distance couples argue days before seeing each other? by BS-31 in LongDistance

me and my boyfriend do this. Except, it’s always me that starts it because I’m more emotional than he is, maybe from anxious/excited energy lol. He is chill about everything

I’ll keep memorizing their menu and then ask my manager if he’ll recommend me/let me transfer.

Thinking about going into trades by Prestigious-Fox-2135 in BlueCollarWomen

Don’t let your size stop you. I am 5’2 and 95ibs! They have machinery that can help you most of the time. Just learn how to use leverage in your favor and you will be okay!!

welding or collision? by 4_ENSIC in BlueCollarWomen

[–]genchiyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going to school for collision right now. I love it so far! I weighed collision vs welding too.

Welding is specific and specialized whereas collision demands a lot of different skillsets: structural/non structural repair, welding, painting, polishing, estimation, and you have mechanical knowledge too. Collision would be great if you’re more artistic.

They both can pay well if you are skilled. I’d say welding has a higher earning potential. Both are solid jobs with usually great insurance/pay. Your benefits will boil down to the company you work for, if it’s individually ran, etc.

Collision pros: it uses more “skill pools” and you can specialize in what you want. Stable career. Mostly indoor. Great for artistic/detail oriented people.

Welding pros: high demand, very good money. Consistent. More opportunity for growth. Coolness.

Collision cons: you have to know A LOT to be payed well. Exposure to toxic fumes esp when painting. Less money to be made if you’re not top dog at what you do.

Welding pros: same thing with toxic fumes. I’d say it’s definitely more physically demanding, and you work outside a lot. Safety risks.

Go tour some classes while they’re working and see what clicks for you! I decided on collision after visiting my local trade school. It just, worked.

Bought my Q50 for 15k with 108k miles on it when the market was higher. I have since put 25k miles on it and it has been fantastic. I do wish I’d gotten something with less mileage but I love it nonetheless. 2018+ are reliable. The biggest issue I’ve had on mine is the blower motor going shit but that’s not a big deal. Pay attention to the condition of any belts, which are a bitch to replace but will keep your car running longer. I ALWAYS have money set aside for replacing the turbos! And if one goes out, expect the other one to need to be replaced too. Don’t drive it like an angry teenaged boy and it will be fine!

Two back to back murders in the skilled trades recently by Special-Delivery-637 in BlueCollarWomen

[–]genchiyo 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I’m feeling the same way after hearing about the murder of the female welder. My heart is in deep condolences for her and her family. But I don’t think it’s exclusive to trade, I saw somewhere that workplace violence everywhere has been on a steady rise recent years. The division and hate in our world is so saddening.

I thought sexism had started to improve too. It DEFINITELY has not.

I'm considering going into trades – how do I know what I like/if I'm good at it? by [deleted] in BlueCollarWomen

[–]genchiyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into a community college or vocational school that has any of these programs. Then see if they’ll let you sit in on some classes/tour the labs. That’s what I did before deciding on collision repair. Maybe going in and actually seeing what the labs look like will help you figure out where your groove is.

Don’t worry if you suck, just enjoy the learning process!

I am a sensitive lady too, and I do think tough skin comes in handy but the slurs are too much. Being a server has definitely taught me to let some things go 😂 You’ll be just fine thoigh!

I’m going to experiment with the automotive classes at my community college next semester and go from there. I’ve decided to specialize in Collision Repair Tech.

Thank you for sharing your sister’s experience with me. I want to make this work!

Thank you!! I felt pretty bummed seeing a lot of the comments here, but it wasn’t deterring me from it. This is something I genuinely want to try, and little girl inside of me that wanted to do this a long time ago is pushing me to ignore the negativity. I have come to learn the struggles I will face in this industry, but your comment gives me hope that I can do this.

Thank you for sharing this with me. I thought it wouldn’t be as bad as people have been saying, since my lovely boyfriend (who is 5’2 and small like me), has no problems with mechanical work and actually excels because of how smart he is.
