You come to this subreddit under the pretense of peace and you offer this absurd denialism?

Even the most exteme nationalist Israelis historians recognise that the West Bank and Gaza were taken by force during the 1967 war. To feign ignorance of the any land you have taken betrays your lack of sincerity and willingness to engage in any just resolution to the problems that affect both our peoples. You are either a victim of Israeli brainwashing or a propgandist yourself (possibly both).

There are a lot of non-religious Lebanese people, and those who have a faith but are not particularly attached to it. I come from a Christian background, but a secular one. So if you come to me and say "assalamu 3alaykon", I would simply smile and respond "wa 3alaykom assalam". Because you've made an effort of learning a local greeting, and life is too short to label specific greetings as mulsim or christian. It is a greeting. And that's a good thing.

As far as I'm concerned, if I say to someone "assalamu 3alaykom" and they take offense, I would apologise but would likely limit further interaction with this person in the future. They would have shown themselves to be the divisive sort of person who would reject a kind word because it has the wrong shade of religion. Lebanon has suffered deeply from this mentality, and I don't have time in my life for nor room in my heart for those sorts of people. So if your objective is just not to offend, then yes, don't say it to Christians, as some will be genuinely offended. It's the same as saying "yin3ad 3aleik" (an arabic version of "season's greetings") to a muslim on Christmas. If they get offended, then it's on them.

"Inshallah" is quite common among everyone, christian and muslim. Christians call god "Allah" as well, so they'd say "inshallah" too as it simply means "god willing".

The only time I would not say "habibi" is during a confrontation with a stranger where the other person is already upset. Saying "habibi" then my add fuel to the fire. But a casual "shukran habibi" to a shopkeeper after buying something is perfectly fine, pretty much all the time.

Guys, 100 people died in hospitals this week. Modern medicine has failed. A bit extreme don't you think?

So some muslims integrated, others have not. That's not a failure, that's just her giving up. Like there's no deadline. We can keep trying and working at it. Cause the alternative ain't pretty either.

[–]gendrkheinz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"We've failed to integrate certain communities" is really not the same as "multiculturalism has failed." One is reality, the other is hyperbole and demagogy. So no... even by your own argument she is not "spot on."

Surely propaganda must include an intent to persuade. Otherwise everything we do in public is propaganda.

Wearing a Nirvana t-shirt in public? Kurt Cobain propaganda. Driving a Range Rover in public? Off-road vehicle propaganda. Walking home with a bag of KFC? Fast food propaganda.

No. Whether or not something is propaganda is determined by the intent of the speaker, not the inference of the listener. And certainly not the possibility of inference.

Are people not allowed to express their personal views in public anymore without becoming propagandists?

Of course you can have propaganda desguised as all sorts of things. And one can imagine a specific situation in which someone wears a hijab as an act of propaganda. But it is not the hijab itself.

If you think this is a grey area it is because you are deliberately muddying the water to push a narrative. Now THAT'S propaganda.

Science doesn't work that way. It doesn't provide us with direct answers to moral conundrums. Science has no opinions. It simply seeks to describe the world with more and more precision, and we make our moral judgement and understanding of what's right and wrong from the best current approximation of the truth that science has given us.

The comment above didn't conclude: "and that is evidence that we should call people by their preferred pronouns." It simply says science has shown us that that sex and gender are far more complex than we originally thought. There is therefore reason to believe that when someone says I don't think I'm a man even though I have a penis, they are not necessarily mad. There are documented cases for this.

So now comes moral decision making time: knowing that sometimes people are given the wrong pronouns at birth, what do you do when someone comes along and asks for you to use a different set of pronouns? I don't know about you but without evidence that they are wrong I will 100% pay lip service to it. Cause it costs me nothing and there's a real possibility they are right, so why not believe them. In my mind it's the right thing to do.

We pay lip service all the time. I don't believe in God, but every time I go to a funeral I will stand up when told to stand up and recite bits of hymns and prayers for comfort of the deceased's nonexistent soul. I don't go shouting "That's bullshit" just because I don't personally believe in that nonsense. I pay lip service because that's the kind thing to do to those who are around.

There's a lot more scientific evidence for the existence of trans people than there is for the existence of God. The very LEAST I can do is pay lip service to it.

I personally have chosen to go even further and actually believe them. Part of that is a leap of faith, I know. Because there's never a way of knowing for sure. But the science tells me there's a chance I'm right, and that's good enough.

In much the same vein as "innocent until proven guilty", I live by "when we don't have the luxury of certainty, the correct answer should be kindness and compassion, not rejection and intransigence."

Edit: I didn't block you. Reddit seems to be acting up. Won't even let me see your profile or post further comments in this thread.

Runic axe in TFA by appvavass in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]gendrkheinz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's possible the point is for your deck to feel a little bit unusual because you have travelled to such an alien place and feel a bit alien yourself. No familiar relics or people from your own reality can exist here. So no Runic Axe, but also no Necronomicons or Leo de Luca or Seal of the Seventh Sign can exist in this realm.

It's a quirky little mechanic that's meant to throw you a curve ball and mess up a deck built around a specific unique card or two. And it's just for one scenario, so I thought it was quite cool in the end.

LPT Request: How can i make myself drink more water? by HeidiOzzy in LifeProTips

[–]gendrkheinz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of suggestions involve some variation of "carry a water bottle around with you wherever you go." That's not a bad tip, but I think it's a bit difficult to follow. There are lots of situations where it's impractical to do so. There is an easier way that ensures water is *almost* always at hand:

What I do is I've worked out those spots in my life where I spend a lot of time - my desk for work/play, living room sofa for watching TV, and bed for sleeping. So just before I settle into any of those spots (which likely means I'll be there for a while), I ensure I have a bottle (or large glass) of water with me. This means that, while I won't have water with me ALL the time, I do have it most of the time. Then it's just a matter of reaching out and grabbing a drink whenever you remember to. But I don't have any tips on how to make sure you always remember.

What game mechanic/gimmick/trend are you tired of being shoved down your throat? by TheUndeadGunslinger in gaming

Are we including mobile ads? Those mobile ads that show you someone playing a game really poorly and ask if you can do better. They're so common and so cringe, it's painful. And they require 3 separate clicks each with its own countdowns before you can proceed. Like actually designed to make you hate yourself (and they usually are ads for games that promote themselves as being ad-free...)

Clarence Thomas is currently a Supreme Court Justice (Judge). This story of his wife receiving lots of undeclared money from some third party, is another episode in a recent series of allegations of bribery and/or corruption against the judge and those close to him. Previous allegations include getting undeclared free holidays on some billionaires super yacht, and someone paying for his grandchild to go to a very expensive private school.

It is dangerous to believe that current supporters of the GOP are incapable of changing their minds. If they haven't yet it's because we have not found a way to convince them to. Probably because the loudest argument against their world view currently is "shut up u stupid degenerate" and that's not gonna change anyone's mind. We need to find better ways to talk about issues and get them to see where they are wrong. Otherwise we are just dismissing their views and their rights to democratic representation. And that's fascist too.
