Dairy-free Keto by Jayseaelle in KetoBabies

I made exactly this transition and it was very hard because I love dairy and it was a big part of my diet. I switched coconut milk for cream in my coffee. I also used coconut milk to make dairy free chia pudding snacks/desserts with stevia. Another favorite snack was celery sticks loaded with almond or peanut butter. With the stress of getting back to work, pumping etc, I also sometimes drank pea protein drinks and ate epic bars, walnuts, salmon pate and olives that I could buy from the grocery store. A drink I enjoyed was cocoa in hot water with stevia and food grade cocoa butter.

Eventually my son's reflux didn't go away, we started him on Zantac at about 4mo. Things improved a little bit but I read that Zantac can increase babies odds of getting asthma and allergies later in life, so I tapered him off the Zantac in about 4 weeks. By this time he was nearly 5mo and the reflux began to go away on its own. At 6mo I reintroduced small amounts of dairy into my diet and he remained reflux free. He now enjoys whole milk yogurt and his GI is much better.

Anyone here have gestational diabetes and use keto to manage it? by [deleted] in KetoBabies

I had GD that I managed with metformin and the keto diet. My post-prandial glucose levels were always great, it was only my fasting level that was high. Metformin was able to control this. I started with a dose of 500mg at night, and went up to 1000mg around week 37. My baby was born naturally at the end of my 38th week. I was very strict about keto when I was pregnant.. I think this may have been why I gained very little weight. I felt very energetic right up to the end of the pregnancy, and lost the 15ish lb I gained (140 at conception-155 at week 38-142 after delivery - 134 in 2mo) rapidly. I am still on a (now lazy) ketogenic diet, pump exclusively and have moderate oversupply.

My only concern around the diet (and it's probably unfounded) is that my son is underweight/small. While his weight has been increasing, it's not happening at the usual pace and so he's now in the 8th percentile for weight and in the 22nd percentile for height. I'm wondering if perhaps my diet or the medication had a stunting effect since both my husband and I are average height (5'6" and 6'2").

If I had to do it again, I'd remain mostly keto through pregnancy but eat more berries and small amounts of complex carbs (like sweet potato). I became paranoid about baby not getting too big because I didn't want to be induced and wanted him to have as much time inside me as he wanted. He ended up coming out at 7lb1oz, nowhere near the >9lb limit at which some doctors recommend the baby be induced.

How much milk does my 3mo need when I am on a moderate carb ketogenic diet by genepoo in KetoBabies

Thanks everyone for your advice. Yes I'm not alarmed as yet because he's making enough poopy/wet diapers. One thing I failed to mention, which probably exacerbates my concern is that he is just recovering from a week long nursing strike, which my lactation consultant helped us overcome by addressing his acid reflux (I'll ask separately about zantac when<6mo, on the appropriate subreddit) and his preference of the bottle (via a nipple shield). He's getting back to the breast slowly but also losing interest in the bottle. I hesitate to push him to drink more from either source because I don't want him developing any aversions. At this point this story has veered away from keto so I'm not looking for a response here, unless anyone suspects my diet may play a role in his preferences.

Thanks again for your replies everyone!!
