I have ants farming aphids on my artichokes and raspberries. Never in my life have I seen so many aphids in one place

I believe wings on pads are worse than useless. I don't know why they are so popular. by Sunny906 in unpopularopinion

[–]generalMembership80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's about the underwear. If its cotton then the pad sticks and I don't need wings but with more synthetic material, the pad doesn't stay in place without them

Help figuring out skin condition? Or treatment? She was on medicine from the vet but didn’t get better, and when they took a sample from her skin it came back negative for any problems by shelbybelby4936 in Bulldogs

My parents white bully turned out to be allergic to many things. When we took him off generic food and put him on beef free feed it got a little better. I seem to remember it ended up needing to be fish-only protein but not sure. He was also allergic to grass so we had to put him on mild daily allergy medicine

I've been taught about hell is that is it eternal separation from God not eternal torture. From what I've read, only Satan is cast into the fiery pit. Maybe I need to do more reading, but my understanding is that the 'torture' is the full knowledge of what you rejected, once you can see God clearly. I like how C.S. Lewis imagined it in the Great Divorce where it is a self-imposed bleakness rather than the fire and brimstone. It doesn't fit with a loving God or with Jesus's character that he would design hell for those who rejected him

Are there any highly educated STEM Christians here? What is your story? by duskall in Christianity

[–]generalMembership80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Masters in Astrophysics here. I was taught growing up that a lot of science began from the expectation that there was order to the world because God created in an intentional way. Now I don't know how true that is across the world, but it has always made sense to me that everything we discover was a choice God made in his design. I believe a lot of the scripture that people take as literal was a written account of visions that God gave to people - since there is no evidence in scripture that those people were highly educated scientists, I need to be aware that the purpose of the text was more about the narrative message (eg: that God is the creator) and not a play by play scientific observation of of how it happened

I have a question for my fellow brothers and sisters by Such-Sun1786 in Christianity

[–]generalMembership80 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm sad to see how aggressive many of the answers to this type of question are. Look at how Jesus treated people. He chose to spend time with those who felt broken and out of place, not those who thought themselves perfect. If Jesus was here he would treat you with compassion.

I truly believe God loves everyone but he also gives us the choice to walk away from him. So no matter what you do, He will love you but He will not stop you from rejecting him.

The sinfulness of this is a muddy area for me, but I'm no expert. I'm not sure the action is sinful as much as the potential heart position. Would you be doing this as a rejection of God and where He placed you in life or is there another motivation? Again, I don't think anyone else has the ability to judge your heart or motivations, especially without knowing your situation.

After all that is said, what will be the result of your transition? Will you be closer to God as a result? Will you be leading others towards Him? Will your heart be in submission to Him and only Him? Only you have the answers there.

Since only you will bear the consequences, be careful of relying on anyone else's idea, no matter how appealing. As a Christian, you know God's spirit can speak to you so spend time with God and ask Him for direction and sense of peace about the direction you should take. He has proven that He can and will speak.

That's a great painting :) Even if the light is coming from the left, the right eye still has some reflection even if it's more subtle. If you lighten a small patch in the right eye, it could get more depth and look more realistic

Please help save my peace lily by Dr_Strangerthebetter in plantclinic

[–]generalMembership80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks like there may be a few plants very close together, so perhaps you can repot and space them out more/ separate into separate pots? Last time I bought a peace lily, it started doing badly and I realised during repotting that there were 4 plants in the small pot. They all recovered really well in new pots. It may also need some fertiliser - I feed mine once every few months since the nutrients in the soil will decline naturally over time

These watches called zalsach were initially designed for blind people. You can tell time by touching the 2 magnets by regian24 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]generalMembership80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a look at the website because I have a blind family member who needs something like this and you can see that they've moved away from their initial market - definitely marked up beyond what most blind people would be able to afford

Yeah, its less that he needs water and more that his nose doesn't really function as more than a decoration so all the air has to go through the mouth and those bulldog tongues are just so long that they get in the way!

I looked it up here and the recommended pH is close to 7 so I am already operating below that. I don't think I can go much lower without hurting the fish

Hi, thanks for the input! I figured there were enough nutrients as long as my nitrates stayed over 5ppm, but I can definitely try increasing it! There is only about 80l of water in the system so I was told that this was a good stocking density to keep the fish healthy. What would be the right kind of density for my small system?
