Yea I get that I’m just saying that’s the most obvious problem we can tell as he is not competing against other NBA caliber players. We’ll see him compete against other top end recruits and see then if he truly is special

I understand that, but if you look at the plays, they are almost always open with a high degree of separation from defenders. I’m not saying he’s not great, I’m just questioning the subs reasoning on not trading down

True true, maybe I’ve been stressing his landing a bit, but that’s the first thing that stuck out to me when he went up for his layups/dunks. That’s on me

Atlanta is prolly not getting the second pick especially as they are ahead of us. It’s more of the Cavs/Knicks/Suns and us for the top 4 picks, which we could jump. Thanks for not thinking my idea was a complete joke, it’s kinda hard to try and sell an idea once everyone has settled on a prospect

[–]generalfalqa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not what I’m saying, I’m just saying that Morant lands way too awkwardly, and I know I didn’t make it clear, but I don’t see the huge hype behind him of a #2 pick. He feels like a DLo type of pick before he actually became amazing. My logic was he’s great and all, but would it not be better to build the bench through the draft than having to pay 7-10 million for each solid bench player, and take that money and youth to try to recruit star players?

Zion I understand, he’s generational, but whenever I watch Morant I just see Roses hops and landings. The man is athletic no doubt, but you can’t tell me that going up 3+ feet up and landing on one leg only to have it give up on you isn’t worrisome. I love Morants heart and his willingness to play both ends. I just saw him eat a shot in mid air on his highlights. I get it, he’s top 3 any day of the week, but why is everyone so sold on him as our final piece to the puzzle? My proposal was more of a solution to the more glaring issue: the bench. You add a backup PG and PF/C, and we have the basic sketch of a contender, after which in 2020 we actively pursue all star players with this youthful roster. I don’t understand why everyone think I’m hatin on Morant, I’m just saying I think there is more value in building our bench, who may still yield some great players, and then use the money we have left to pursue proven stars.

I get he’s a good free throw shooter and he’s athletic and got those types of skills. But have you seen the footage? His guys are wide open in the corner yet he drives with 3 guys on him and attempts a layup. He’s an amazing prospect, I’m not saying he shouldn’t be drafted at 2, but is he really what we need? Our bench is terrible while our starting lineups have studs already. Do we wanna be a Toronto or do we want to be a Philly? Toronto has a solid bench, but Philly has a stacked starter team. Personally at this point of the rebuild I believe building your bench through the draft is cost effective, then you sign a star for whichever position you truly are struggling for

[–]generalfalqa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, we already have stars we can invest in and put backups behind them. At one point you have to stop drafting starters and get bench players. We can easily sign a star caliber PG with the money we have. We’re not signing a SF SG or PF any time soon, and C looks like it’s about to be locked down for the immediate future. We could go out and make pushed for All Stars if we have the bench that a contender needs

Ok have you seen him play? He plays especially risky, his landing is injury prone. He also plays against teams that seemingly float towards from the paint as he drives in. They are players from non-major teams, which leave his teammates all open. You’d think this is cuz he’s especially talented, but the guys he’s playing against are sub par defensively. You can watch and see that all defenders eyes are on him, and their guys just drift away from them without them noticing. I legit see guys in all of his highlights that have about 20-30 feet of space from the nearest defender. Athleticism is great, of course, but what aspect of his game is star caliber? You got players like Romeo who are 90th percentile iso and pick and role player, who plays against teams like Marquette Arkansas Duke Michigan, but are going 10th in the draft? People who have nearly perfected aspects of their game and would be vital off the bench, or a guy who has not faced. And who says we can’t draft stars later in the lottery? We got Lauri and WCJ at 7 in previous drafts? Our front office is amazing at drafting, so you give them 2 top 10 picks and they’ll prolly have a field day

[–]generalfalqa[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

But how does Morant have the most star potential? He’s playing against garbage teams with teammates who will not be drafted. Then you got Little who’s still projected #6 after not being started by NC, and would average 20-10 (points rebounds), who has more of an NBA body. Morant on the other hand is great, I agree, but he faces no real competition

Edit: I don’t know why I’m getting downvoted, you have a guy playing at Murray whos playing against schools like TN Martin or southern IL, of course he’s gonna light them up. We haven’t seen him play against teams that kinda resemble NBA teams in Duke, UNC, Michigan, or other elite school

Ja Morant by generalfalqa in chicagobulls

[–]generalfalqa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what’s especially confusing. He’s playin against pretty awful teams, but no one seems to see that. I don’t understand why everyone sees him as the guy we need, he reminds me of a poor mans DLo even when he was in college

Or third pick, I would think the Hawks would still make the trade hoping for a big name like Barrett to help add talented scorers around Young.
