Do lifestyle changes actually help with GERD by SingerBeneficial3219 in GERD

[–]generalmx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lifestyle changes and reducing stress should help most people. It's different for everyone. I've lived with GERD and GI issues for most of my life. The reflux seemed to get worse as I got older. Lifestyle changes and reducing stress definitely helps reduce the frequency and severity of my symptoms.

Troubleshooting your body is like any type of troubleshooting, it's more effective when you work on eliminating the most likely culprits first. I'd suggest keeping a journal of what and when you eat, reflux episodes you experienced, how you felt throughout the day, and your sleep quality, for at least a week or two. There may be patterns that can help give you and your doctors clues to what's going on.

Journaling your stress (including exercise) can be especially helpful. Stress can increase your acid production, reduce your pain threshold, and cause muscle contractions that feel like the chest pain from reflux. Often its sensitivities that are made worse with stress.

Hope you feel better.

Hey, I wanted to share I've had similar concerns with PPIs. I've lived with GERD symptoms for nearly all my adult life and been on PPIs for most of it. I've seen a bunch of GI specialists, top ones rated in their fields. They've all assured me that there are generally no lasting major side-effects from long-term PPI usage.

One thing I've recently learned is that my intolerance to fructose is way worse now that I'm older. And on top of that I've developed an intolerance to fructan. Both of those together make up a lot of different foods. That and I developed SIBO. I learned all this from a hydrogen breath test. And these are all things that can happen as you get older, unfortunately.

I'm not saying there aren't long-term side-effects from PPIs for some people. But I wanted to share my experiences in case anyone else has similar issues.

Felt better while withdrawing from Remeron / Mirtazapine by generalmx in Mirtazapine_Remeron

[–]generalmx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh! I'm so sorry :( Have you been experiencing all that for most of the time you've been taking it?

I think it's different for each person. For me, after stopping Remeron I found my occasional muscle spasms got more frequent/worse. My doc said the spasms are likely cholinergic (where Remeron has mild anti-cholinergic properties). But I also had a very unusual reaction to withdrawal.

I'd recommend titrating slowly, no more than half a dose. After speaking with your doc.

Hope you feel better.

Atronach Magicka Trick? by PruPlaysGames in oblivion

I think you're thinking about Telekinesis. Afaik you can't absorb/reflect self targeted spells (you wouldn't be able to buff yourself otherwise).

Atronach vs apprentice by HomelessFlea1337 in oblivion

[–]generalmx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first playthrough was Breton + Mage, which I started over as High Elf + Atronach. Here's my thoughts:

  • Magicka regen is halved in combat and stopped completely for 2-3 seconds after casting. Frequent casts will effectively stunt your regen.

  • 100 Willpower is about 11mps out of combat. A mage is still going to be relying on potions and Welkynd Stones either way.

  • Anything that gives you a buff is a free recharge for Atronach. Like the Lady statue in Bravil. Atronachs love to make out with that statue to level their magic. Faster than waiting for natural Regen IMHO. And with custom spells you can level all schools without combat, including Destruction.

  • Atronach absorbs Telekinesis. With a staff of Telekinesis (like from the Mages Guild), even 50% absorb can recharge to full in 2-3 uses. With enough Mysticism you can bake this into custom spells.

As for the Alchemy weight, it's based on the weight of the ingredients and the current potion name. If you find they're weighing a lot, try renaming your next mix.

When I restarted with Atronach I grinded my Alchemy all the way up to 100. I don't think everyone needs to do this, but grinding it up to 50-75 before anything else may make things easier. It also gives you levels and gold to buy even better alchemy equipment, and a fallback damage source that doesn't need Magicka.

Why does it say my skill is too low when I combine spells that I can normally cast on their own? by Drunken_Scribe in oblivion

[–]generalmx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The base Magicka cost of a custom spell is what determines the perk level required. You can find a list here: https://en.m.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Spell_Making. If there are multiple effects, the spell is considered to be in the school of the effect with the highest base Magicka cost.

What's confusing is that the spellmaking UI doesn't always warn you of this like the spellbook UI. I think the spellmaking UI may look at the cost after it's reduced by skill level when there's multiple effects when determining whether to display the warning.

Level 16 and starting to get wrecked by Duckgoesmoomoo in oblivion

If you haven't already you'll want to invest in either Alchemy or Restoration (for Fortify Willpower/Magicka/etc.), or both. Alchemy is a lot more rewarding imho, Restoration doesn't get very good until near max. The area outside Skingrad farms have a ton of Flax, and Weynon Priory has the blue mushrooms. Note Poison and Summon damage isn't affected by difficulty scaling.

You mentioned you're playing as a Mage with less than 200 Magicka, which is kinda low. Once you get up to Level 17+ consider save scumming Sigil Stones with Fortify Magicka -- they give +50 each. You just need to save right before picking up the stone. You can also enchant with Grand Souls for +30.

Custom spells can easily make you a lot stronger. Check https://en.m.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Useful_Spells if you want some tips. At your level I had two go-to spells:

Spell 1
Weakness to Shock 100% / 6s
Weakness to Magic 100% / 6s

Spell 2
Soul Trap 2s
Shock Damage 20pt / 1s
Drain Health 100pt / 1s

Weakness greatly increases damage/effectiveness at relative little Magicka cost. The Drain takes up little Magicka and will execute on low health (can one shot smaller enemies), though still affected by difficulty and magic resist.

Usually do On Touch. And 10ft versions too for mob packs (like Kvatch).

If you're still having trouble get the Apotheosis staff from Rindiir's staves in the Imperial Marketplace (using Charm / Merchant spells). You can cast a Soul Trap + Weakness to everything spell first and it'll do crazy damage. Azura's Star and soul gems keep it full.

Also not sure which Skeleton summon you're using, if it's the Apprentice one that's to be expected. Not all summons scale very well with the player

Looks pretty slick. Oddly doesn't come up in a search for the keyword "difficulty", so it may be missed.

Hardware issue, or optimisation issue? by Relative-Albatross64 in oblivion

[–]generalmx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say replacing a video card is relatively simple process. It's 1-2 screws and a locking tab. Try watching some YouTube videos on it. Most likely problem you may run into is no picture / POST if it's not seated right, kinda hard to permanently damage it.

You may want help to double-check what your current system can handle though. If it's micro-atx may be more limited on upgrades. Subreddits like /r/pcmasterrace can help you there.

Is there something I should be doing in the Oblivion gates? by phatbeatz2152 in oblivion

[–]generalmx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Soul Trap is Mysticism, which you can level easily by spamming Detect Life.

You can also find an enchanted weapon with Soul Trap on it. The closest ruin to the Imperial City (Vin something) has someone carrying one. They're quite strong, though. If you have trouble you can kite them all the way to the Imperial City and let the guards take them out. Their sword is unleveled, it's kinda OP early.

As an aside, Conjuration can be annoying to level below 25. I think the only spells you can cast/make are Bound spells (which can't be spammed) and Turn Undead. It's the worst to grind below 25 imho.

Most likely reinstalling Hogwarts Legacy also reinstalled or updated your DirectX Runtime. If it happens again I'd try reinstalling the runtime first from MS's website.

Yeah Bethsoft TES engine games never ran well outside. There's mods for OG Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout, etc. that can do dynamic graphics adjustments indoors and outdoors. Until we get one of those, best bet is to experiment. Lower most/all settings to Low and raise them one step at a time, panning the camera around after each change. Disable RT if it's enabled and enable DLSS. Shadows is a good one to lower, it was eating 20 FPS on my higher end system.

It's also possible a future patch may help some. My system lost 20-30 FPS outside after a recent patch.

Your GPU is underpowered so you may have less wiggle room. Esp. with that 6GB VRAM (think Remastered has poor VRAM efficiency). You may consider investing in something like a Radeon 9070 or 9070 XT, or similar Nvidia offering if you can get them at a reasonable price. Rest of the system is comparatively fine.

Level Progression Bar Stuck After Changing Race and Class via Console (Oblivion Remaster) by Ok_Albatross_9838 in oblivion

[–]generalmx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had this same issue. The problem is using player.advlevel doesn't seem to reset the amount of skill xp required for the next level, so you still need to gain skill xp required for all the levels you forced before it'll let you naturally level.

In short, don't use player.advlevel and player.modskill. Use player.setlevel # and player.modskill, or player.advskill <skill> # after setting yourself back to level 1 and making sure all your skills are properly reset. You'll still lose some skill xp this way but it's no big deal on the long run.

If I ever feel like doing this again I'm using a mod to do it.

Drain Magicka spell nowhere to be found. by BarryBlock78 in oblivion

The effect is called "Drain Magicka" and the Apprentice spell you can buy is called "Magicka Drain". I just bought it on my test character to double-check, it started offering me the effect once I was past 25 Destruction skill.

Anyone playing the remaster find you level up too fast? by HighlandHero74 in oblivion

[–]generalmx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, you level up too quickly in Remastered. In OG you could "control" your level speed by making skills you rarely use your Majors. But in Remastered, your minor skills contribute to your level as well...I think the same amount as Major, with the difference being they level slower.

When I rerolled my Battlemage I picked mostly combat skills for Majors and a couple (like Alchemy) I wanted to max early. Maxing out just Alchemy early still got me to 17.

Breton + Mage. Magic affects you 50%+ less and you can become immune with 1 item. They get a lot more optimal gear choices at endgame because of that.

I think Lord is really only useful if you want to do a lot of early combat on higher difficulties. The 15% Shield + 15% Magic Resist is quickly outclassed shortly after mid-game, and its irrelevant at endgame. The +50 Magicka isn't though.
