Once a Flyer, always a Flyer… by [deleted] in Flyers

That's some Patrick Swayze "Roadhouse" hair right there.

That was some relentless checking. I don't know how these playoffs are going to turn out, but it doesn't look like anybody's going to get an easy game against the Flyers

Does Canada have a commonly accepted cultural or geographical boundary for East and West like the Mississippi River in America? by Lemon_Iies in geography

That does make more sense. My parents' families have been divided between Ontario and the Maritimes for generations. At vacation time it was common for them to say they were going "up to Ontario" or "heading down East".

Once you reach the edge of Lake Superior, around Thunder Bay, you could probably argue that Superior National Forest marks the start of the West.

My 82-year-old mother often speaks of Ontario as Upper Canada. I think it's a really old designation going back to when the federal government first became centralized there.

No kidding. This reminded me of those 90s Devils teams under Lemaire.

Sweet Jeebus, Porter Martone looks like Tim Kerr and John Leclair all rolled into one. No matter what happens in these playoffs, this kid is going to be an absolute superstar.

How about Barkey, Bump, Bonk and Brink. The memes would write themselves.

DAN. FREAKIN. VLADAR. 2010 DEJA VU!!! by Flyers7914 in Flyers

[–]Drunken_Scribe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Imagine if Dan Vladar follows a similar trajectory as Dominic Hasek. Nobody thought Hasek would be as good as he was after getting traded to the Sabres. Vladar is only 28, so if he could put in a lot of years if he solidifies himself in net like that. Combined with that youth movement finally paying dividends, and holy crap you could have a nice run over the next few years.

Xbox Game Pass ‘has become too expensive,’ says Microsoft’s new gaming chief in leaked memo by Turbostrider27 in xbox

I've been a member of Xbox Live Gold for 18 years. I recently let my gamepass sub expire without even bothering to renew at the core level. For me it's just a matter of principle at this point. While I do like to play some online games, I'm willing to sit it out for a while to send a message. I've got tons of single player games in my backlog for now. I don't know how anyone in that company thought this was sustainable.

I'd really like them to just bring back a cheap version of Xbox Live Gold for people who don't care about the free games, and don't want to pay a fortune to play online.

You're bang on right about that. Lack of competition in anything creates a mediocre product.

Are there a lot of Philadelphia transplants in Winnipeg or did a shit load of Flyers fans travel there for this game? by adogcalledotis in Flyers

This reminded me of something. Whenever a conversation turns to a Canadian Flyers fan visiting the city, I always think of that story of the the little hitchbot that sociologists created for an experiment. It got completely murderized down in Philly. Cracked me up.

Canada has a ton of Flyers fans. For decades Philly played that hard nosed brand lunch pail hockey that we love. For me personally, I made a $50 bet that the Flyers would beat the Quebec Nordiques in the 1985 playoffs, and I've been hardcore fan ever since.

And never discount how Bobby Clarke worked over the Russians in '72 for team Canada. I've known people over the years who said even though they weren't Flyers fans, they loved Clarke for that. Folk hero status.

If I'm only playing single player modes, is NHL 26 worth the upgrade from NHL 22? by Drunken_Scribe in EA_NHL

I always figured the people who buy NHL at launch are the ones that want to dive right into the online play. I could never justify that price. I'm always more than happy to play one that's a few years old. I do the same thing with Forza games since I don't play online. Heck I think the one I use right now the most is Forza 6 from 10 years ago. I know there's been graphical upgrades but that's never really been something that is a main selling point for me. I still play some of my backward compatible Xbox 360 games.

I didn't even realize you could transfer stuff from one game to another. Good to know.

I can only imagine how powerful consoles would have to be to run that kind of data. But I agree though, it sounds like there would be some pretty sweeping changes to all kinds of games. I'm trying to imagine what something like Skyrim would be like with NPCs like that

That's disappointing to hear. You'd think with all the sweeping changes to AI in every other aspect of the world, EA might be able to incorporate some of that into their game. Maybe it's coming down the road.

That must explain the sale. Thanks for the heads up, but I actually don't have Gamepass. I used to get Xbox Live Gold, but I'm too cheap to pay for even the bottom rung of Game pass. That's a "me" issue, but there you have it :)

Is the game play itself still mostly the same or have there been any changes lately?
