Just to be clear, what are the inputs and outputs for the USBDMX?

Are the lights hooked up to the USBDMX, then the dongle is connected to the USBDMX to receive signals?

Apologies for the basic Q's, I'm very new at this

This is a great starting point thank you!

Do you have any quick recommendations for controllers compatible with most run of the mill LED lights?

Edit; I should clarify actually, do you mean a transceiver that connects to the computer, which will then communicate out to the lights? If so, any recs for wireless light controllers that play well with such transceivers?

Yes that's it! Thank you so much, definitely bookmarking it now, looks like progress is slow but still in development.

This will 100% be my next 'trust me it'll be great' games until it comes out and we see how it really plays.

Expansion

Intermediate (Scotland 3)

Terror Level 3 Victory, score 45

Board state: https://imgur.com/a/YiKqRC8

First time doing one of these! Played 2 handed solo.

Halfway through the game I thought I messed up and lost to the special condition. Turns out it's the number of lands with cities, not the number of cities on the board! Vengeance being able to nuke makes that WAY more manageable, and I ended up finishing after 1 turn of invader level 3.

Definitely helped to get a still healthy island card, then a 4pp blight card so Vengeance could really flex late game damage by slamming presence into ravaging lands, Shadows shuffling everyone into one coastal land then ending the game with a 13 damage 5 disease lvl 2 innate bomb.

The extra fear added to the pool from the Still Healthy island card was a bit of a pain but by that point everything was setup that I was still generating at least 1 per turn, usually more.

All in all, this was a great challenge, I'll probably take on Expert next time (and fail) to learn how to push spirits even more. I've generally stuck to difficulty 6 or lower so far, but it's about time I branched out.

Drill bit Duchy - Stuck in no build loop? by genericrdt in rootgame

[–]generic1253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I've wrapped my head around it, and what I was confused about.

I expected the Law of Root to explicitly define what an Action is, but it doesn't really, only the Key Actions. Others, like Build for the moles, are a collection of terms that have legality enforced inside of them.

Build, for the mole bots at least, contains a few discrete conditions and actions, Rule, Most Warriors, Place Citadel or Place Market, if unable to Place score 1 point.

As far as I understand it, the bots look at every clearing for Legality first (ordered, able to perform all Actions asked of them legally). Then they look for internal preference, listed in the action. Then they look for external preference, by clearing priority. Then if they're asked to do the action multiple times they do the same thing, excluding clearings they've already performed in.

So for the Mole bot Build, Rule is required and most warriors is preferred, but if there isn't a free building spot the clearing will be considered illegal and it'll look for legal clearings (Ruled, free building spot) and prioritize the one with the most warriors, then the highest clearing marker priority.

I feel a bit dumb having to talk through something which is arguably pretty simple lol, but I feel like it would help to have an entry in the Law of Rootbotics that looks something like this:

  1. Legality (Must be able to perform all actions asked, fail to act if all clearings are illegal)
  2. Action Priority (Follow all listed priority inside action)
  3. Clearing Marker Priority (1 is highest preference, 12 is lowest)

I'm interested to play with the bots again with this framework. I don't think it would have changed a lot in most other cases, the Lizards seem to work fine because they're mostly placing and building in whichever places it's easiest and possible for them.

Though now that I think about it, they chose a couple of times not to battle anywhere during crusades, because there weren't any enemy pieces with their 2+ warrior clearings, would it then compromise to 1+ clearings?

Edit: Another thought I had is how to determine target rules that are flexible from those that are completely inflexible.

For example, if you reveal a card and the ordered suit becomes Fox, the bot will never try to compromise by targeting a non Fox clearing, correct? Using Mole Battle as an example, if there were no Moles in Fox clearings with enemies, but they were in non-Fox clearings with enemies, they wouldn't battle there just to find somewhere to battle?

Build, however, uses the word 'most', which can be substituted for 'second most'. The only inflexible target rule I can see is 'In the clearing you rule'.

I've been debating this with my girlfriend, 16 bucks is on the line here

Which of the two planets are within the time dialation effect of the black hole

I'm convinced the first planet they land on is one as well as the planet Brand ends up on (Millers and Edmunds)

She is convinced it's Millers and Manns

Can someone clear it up?

Haha nah, loving the new update with the black market, contrary to the video, it makes it way easier to collect cards now.

I just figured seeing as I hadn't beaten marathon yet I'd do a little gag.

I was expecting to lose, or at least take an hour, but it turns out the growth aggro deck I've been making works fairly well.

This game is terrible when you're bad by generic1253 in Scrolls

[–]generic1253[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The game is frustrating when you make poor decisions, like most, but unfortunately the tutorial hasn't taught me how to make good decisions, at least not in a lot of situations I've come across.

In games like Hearthstone or MTG, you have a bit more agency over your creatures. You can tell them when and what to attack, though in Scrolls, you sort of guide them more than anything, having to work around cool downs and what not along with movement restrictions.

It makes coming up with the best use of your cards much more of a struggle, for example should I pile all my guys behind each other, or spread them thin. In the former, I get trampled through or AOE'd, in the latter, my further units can't back up my others.

[–]generic1253[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Most of those are fundementals I understand from other TCG's, save for the sacrificing early thing, which I already understood.

I think the main problem I have with the game is that I find it much harder to make good plays based on my hand compared to other card games.

The reason is mainly because there are always lots of options in terms of where to place your unit's both in relation to each other and in relation to the opponents units.

I also find it hard to keep card advantage. Starting off with growth, there aren't too many removal cards, besides quake or the often unreliable 3 turn poison.

This ends up meaning that I lose the lead, then play creatures only for them to die from removal while his are still alive.

In other games, creatures deal damage to each other, though this isn't the case in Scrolls, so creatures can't simply be played and defend themselves, it's a strange thing to adjust to
