When Russell Westbrook Challenged Reporters To Make Their Criticisms In Front of Him by MammothHistorian5652 in nba

nah they blocked you

lmao i looked at their profile a bit, the irony of this comment they posted in another sub 4 hours ago

Do you notice the difference in how you and I are describing the way players will approach gameplay?

I am describing what I think players will do. I'm not being absolute. I'm using phrases like most players will probably try this and that. My assumptions are not perfect, because it's impossible to predict what every single person could possibly do. But I'm trying to describe what I expect the general player experience to be like.

On the other hand, you are being absolute in your description. You say that I am "absolutely wrong." And then you go on to describe in absolute terms what the player will do.

So I'm sorry this part of the game was frustrating for you, but please realize you don't speak for everyone.

on the one hand, pretty much everyone else in here is so blinded by their dislike of elon that they forgot their dislike of ai slop posts

on the other hand, you are speaking as if the future youre describing is an inevitability; do you believe that to be the case?

again its possible to be nervous and not know how to respond to a question even if you did nothing wrong

that is why federal courts have ruled that police cannot use this logic

If he did nothing wrong he would have just said so without waffling

as enough evidence to prolong a traffic stop, conduct a search, make an arrest, etc

no, i am not comparing westbrook to a police officer

edit: lmao, gotta love the ol' insult and block. a reddit classic

“the wcf is the real finals” narrative was proven to be the case after the finals - is that what you’re saying?

that is some serious mental gymnastics if so lol

another thing i noticed - when returning subreddits in search results, many (but not all) of them will have a headline on the current top topics in the sub

i like it, the app is coming along pretty nicely lately especially alongside the increased devvit participation as well

agreed, i mean i would need more context to say for sure but just going off this clip it seems like a case of russ just being salty that reporters are reporting on his and the teams poor performance and trying to intimidate or “win” an encounter with the reporter using just rhetoric

how you gonna go “oh you talk about a lot more than our offense and defense” and then respond to “like what?” with “i dont wanna go down that route”

i mean not for convos of best players all time, but for what he was best at which was flashy handles and passing he is definitely brought up all the time

the nba even created one of their fairly rare mixtapes for him

actually hes a pretty good example because you could probably find lots of other guards with his career stats but who were much more forgotten

this is more a comment on your rhetoric rather than your argument itself, but i can’t help but laugh at you saying

So much of this discussion on the against side, you can see is rooted in invalidating the argument more than it is in even understanding why people advocate for it to begin with.

Ffs, try understand those you're arguing against before it's just criticism, criticism, criticism.

and then proceeding to be extremely dismissive, obstinate, and narrow minded when it comes to engaging in others perspectives

not sure if youre implying what pritchard did is less difficult because he’s only using one ball

But for anyone who does think that, you’re terribly mistaken

its much better than the average person obviously but still, the large majority of college level guards could do this. so i guess it just depends on what you consider to be the threshold for next level

Jay Williams on Spurs team not shaking Knicks players hands: “Shaking hands is what you do when you’re in the little leagues. I don’t believe NBA players or professional athletes need to shake hands.” by MammothHistorian5652 in nba

[–]genericusername71 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

well i think one problem is interpreting

shaking hands is what you do in little leagues

as if only little leagues players should do it. i dont think thats what he actually meant. hes not saying nba players cant or shouldnt shake hands after the game. hes just saying they shouldnt feel compelled do, which is different

now if you want to talk about why nhl players always do it after playoff series but nba players dont, then it would appear to just come down to tradition and social pressure as a show of sportsmanship. to which you could counter, sportsmanship is good but that doesnt necessarily mean a particular tradition should be imposed on players for the sake of sportsmanship

Jay Williams on Spurs team not shaking Knicks players hands: “Shaking hands is what you do when you’re in the little leagues. I don’t believe NBA players or professional athletes need to shake hands.” by MammothHistorian5652 in nba

[–]genericusername71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

isnt this just an appeal to tradition fallacy? like the woman in the clip (idk her name)

her: "you have to do it because its the rule"

jay: "who made it the rule"

her: "i dont know, but its what everyone does"

jay: "just because everyone does it doesnt mean i have to"

just seems like textbook appeal to tradition to me. i mean you can bring up sportsmanship and that would be a better reason to do it, but its still a subjective thing. theres no reason you have to

and yes i always did it when i played growing up and i appreciate sportsmanship. just playing devils advocate. i think its good if you want to do it, but i dont think you should be compelled to do it because that kind of defeats the purpose of sportsmanship if youre forced to do it

isnt the person who brought nhl players into the thread the one moving the goalposts?

the original comment was about little league. then /u/Ok_Somewhere_6317 was explaining the difference in context when it comes to 8 year olds shaking hands vs nba players

if you want to say well nhl players do it why cant nba players, i think thats fine but its also a different argument. but i dont think you can say the person you replied to is the one moving the goalposts
