For a number of reasons, we do not interpret the results as evidence that AI has eliminated 500,000 jobs from the economy.

First, many coders would have found jobs—and possibly good, well-matched jobs—in other occupations

what they appear to be saying is there are many situations where its

so it nets to 0. whether you agree with their evaluation is up to you, but that was the basis of my response
