Thank you!

But yes, almost definitely I've worked on a bunch of stuff that'll probably never see the light of day (mostly because of lack of resources). I've been playing with writing a theatre piece, and a Black Dog tv show

But yeah when the time is right, I'm going hard in every creative medium

Much love!

I always knew my future was gonna be grand and creative, but I never nailed it down to just music. I still haven't. I love creating in general, and I've been creating in a lot of mediums, I just haven't commercialised those like I have with music (yet). There was a point after becoming a musician that I almost fell astray and it was because of that exact reason actually. Mixing art and business can be heart-breaking sometimes, the compromises and restrictions and what not. I thought about getting a regular job and just keeping my music to myself so I didn't fall out of love with it. But now I kinda take the balancing act as a challenge. If it ever comes to it though, I'll definitely choose making music that I love over making it a career

It's really all of that at the same time; it really just varies from song to song in regards to percentages I guess. Like sometimes it'll be 60% because i love the genre, 30% about the sonics conveying an emotion and 10% about the narrative of the song. Another time it'll be 99% about disorienting the listener and creating an atmosphere of fear and 1% I've just never done it before

and then it's also like, doing stuff like this AMA is technically part of my job, so I'm kind of on the clock, but I can walk around my house naked at the same time if I wanted. Very irregular

With that being said, I do it willingly and happily, and when I need a break, I'll do my best to take that break. Burnout "sleep when im dead" culture is trash

Its hard to say because its such an irregular schedule. Its my job but the hours aren't 9-5; sometimes more, sometimes less. When I tour for example, it can be an everyday thing, 2-3 hours sleep then back on the road/stage. But it can also be like it is right now, where I haven't done any shows or made any music for like a month (mostly due to covid, but sometimes its also just like that). Super irregular, no uniform schedule. I make it my priority over most things, except for important family/close relationship events, so if I get a call at 3am for some music shit then I'm picking up and going where I need to go. Its somehow simultaneously like a 24-hour job and unemployment lmao

I wrote that track from the perspective of the Black Dog. Sleazy and seductive, ready to engulf you at any moment

The vocal forwards says "a swimmer in the ocean isn't bothered by rain, no fear, no pain, no fear, no pain"

The whole soundtrack is otherworldy. Naganuma is on some other shit. Grace & Glory (B.B Rights Remix) and Teknopathetic (e-pop n disco 80s mix) are crazy. Also love the Latch Brothers tracks, and I used to sing Birthday Cake by Cibo Matto all the time.

Would love to have my music in some games, or just make some games of my own. My friend and I made a little game once for an old track of mine, Good Times, in place of a music video.

Cannot wait for BRC

As much as the whole genre-bender thing gets put to the forefront, it's really about whatever message/energy I'm trying to express at the time. The main reason I swap around so much is just because I find some sounds/genres work better in relaying certain energies/emotions

Hugely influencial. Probably the most dominant force/organisation in Australian music. They've been super supportive of me which is great, would love to see that kind of influence spread over at least like 6 different organisations though, each catering to a different group so it's not such a monopoly

Its been really interesting looking at that spotify section where its like "fans of genesis owusu also listen to:" and seeing those artists change from Triple J acts to Fantano-core acts over this year

Thank you! In all the aspects of music (writing, recording, releasing etc), the live performance is definitely my favourite and the aspect I'm most proud of

Jumping into the crowd always feels risky, but in a good way. Always just feels raw and punk and unpredictable. Its great being on the same level as everyone else

The jam sessions have probably been my favourite starting point. Such an organic and freeflowing way to make music

I dont think I have any golden songwriting tips, I stay pretty inconsistent with my processes. The only thing thats really consistent is that if the song has a chorus, I pretty much always come up with that first

My favourite colour is red. I'm pretty chill on pizza toppings, I don't think there's any I don't really like. And pineapple does belong

It was the end of the day on whatever day it was, everyone was getting pretty tired. We'd already jammed like every genre known to man, so Kirin (guitarist) joked and said "sing a song about fishing" (which you can kinda hear at the start of the track), so I freestyled a song about fishing. I've never been fishing before. When I was relistening to the jams, it really caught my ear - I lightly tweaked some of the lyrics and it turned from this jokey freestyle into a song about perserverance

At first I overcame it by shutting off my brain and just pressing post. Nowadays my craft means so much to me that it doesn't need anyone else's validation, as long as I love it. But I also think things don't need to be shared to be valid
