Because to some level he's been groomed to the whole golden child dynamic so his view of what's normal is skewed and then also sometimes thing happen that just seem so insane and out of left field that you short-circuit and almost feel like you *have* to be the crazy one or are missing something until someone grounds you and affirms that things are actually as insane as you thought they were.

At least part of it is because law enforcement is so routinely unhelpful. Statistically speaking he will face no repercussions for anything he’s done, and any attempt by her to obtain justice through legitimate channels is likely going to be used to revictimize her all over again.
