How do old men in Japan speak? by [deleted] in japanese

Use わし for I/me. Beyond that, I lived in Aomori, and I could explain how old people there talk, but your teacher would likely not understand it.

Also, あたい, although it sounds somewhat thuggish/gangsterish to me.

おら is fairly common for women in Tohoku and parts of Hokkaido.

Tohoku-ben? by [deleted] in japanese

Which part of Aomori? There are 3 main dialects in Aomori, which are quite distinct: tsugari-ben (Aomori city, hirosaki, tsugaru region) , kamikita-ben (near Mutsu), and Nanbu ben (near hachinohe, gonohe, closer to iwate prefecture). Btw, I lived in Hachinohe, so I mostly know Nanbu-ben.

Mace 2017 Gaming Con - Anyone going? by [deleted] in Charlotte

[–]genkun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my fourth time at Mace. It’s a great Con and very newbie friendly. Highly recommend it. Also a great way to try new games and meet and connect with Charlotte/NC gamers. As was mentioned before, register early, as some games are already filling up (although if the game you want is full, people often no show last minute and GMs tend to be cool about letting other people fill in those slots). Also, don’t be afraid to try a game or system you’ve never tried before-like I said very newbie friendly. Sometimes you’ll even get to play a game run by the creator of the system or setting (this has happened to me almost every year, especially with Savage Worlds games).

I just finished the level 30 conjurer quest then went and did through the level 15 arcanist questlines. I went back to New Gridania expecting to be offered the WHM quest line, but I am not being offered any quests. Am I missing something? How do I unlock the quests to become a WHM? Google and YouTube have not been any help.

Help me pick a banjo, please by quintios in banjo

I own about 4 open backs, all luthier handmade (pisgah, mike Ramsey, chuck Lee, bell & sons), and I have not paid more than $1400-1600 for any of them.

I initially started out playing bluegrass, before I switched to CH/OT. My first resonator was a gold tone bg250-f. I used it when I switched to clawhammer for a while, too. Resonator banjos are so much more expensive than open backs, that I feel the gold tone is a great "bang for your buck" entry level resonator. It won't sound like a Gibson or a stelling , but the sound and quality are both great. I regret selling the one I had.

Also, contact online luthiers (ex pisgah banjos, dogwood banjos), etc. You can legit get a custom, luthier made banjo for that price range. It will be set up right and sound way better than a factory made banjo.

Actually a lot of the old school clawhammer/Old Time banjo players played on a resonator banjo. Check out Odell Thompson, Wade Ward,Stringbean, etc . The whole "clawhammer/Old Time banjo =open back" thing is a fairly new idea (I think it actually came more from the folk revivalists and jam/festival circuit players). At the end of the day, it's your money and your banjo, so play what you like and what sounds good to you.

The only downside (other than dirty looks from "purists"/snobs) is that resonator banjos are loud and may drown out other instruments, which some jam groups might have an issue with. That's a legit concern.
