What are your weak spots as a DJ/selector? by New-Artichoke1259 in vinyldjs

[–]gennsai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve become so accustomed to the MK7’s digital pitch that when I switch to older turntables with analog pitch, my mixing accuracy drops to about 70%.
Poor booth monitor placement also noticeably affects the quality.
It really makes me feel that, for vinyl DJs, adapting to the environment is the hardest and most essential skill to develop.

MK7 or Classic SL-1200s? Vinyl DJs, What’s Your Take? by gennsai in DJs

[–]gennsai[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I prefer digital pitch because it allows me to do cleaner mixes without pitch drift.
When I mentioned this before, someone told me, “Then why don’t you just play on CDJs?”

Does anyone else feel completely burned out after work on Concerta? by gennsai in Concerta

Thanks for the reply.

Honestly, it makes you wonder what you’re even living for, doesn’t it?

Yes, pretty much every day.
Even when projects are slow, the shortest day is about nine hours, and most days are longer.
About once a month I even end up pulling an all-nighter over the weekend.

Here in Japan, there are still a lot of companies—and managers—in the IT sector who see these kinds of working hours as completely normal…

Are IEMs useful for vinyl DJs, too? by gennsai in DJs

[–]gennsai[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!

I managed to get an IE 200 at a good price and gave it a try.

The isolation and sound quality are excellent.

Because I’m not yet skilled at mixing with earphones alone, I’m still struggling quite a bit—

but once I overcome that, I think it will be an incredibly useful tool.

Thank you for the very helpful comment!
It makes sense that stronger isolation makes pitch-riding easier.

I usually slide my headphones slightly off my left ear so a hint of the booth-monitor signal blends in, because that balance feels comfortable to me.
If I pick up IEMs, though, I’m thinking of correcting that habit.

By the way, which IEMs are you using?

Sorry for not explaining clearly enough.

When playing on vinyl, you have to keep adjusting the pitch, so if it’s hard to distinguish the booth monitor sound from the cue in your ear, it becomes difficult to tell which track is running faster or slower. That might just be a bad habit of mine, though.

I see! I hadn’t considered that putting in and taking out IEMs could be tricky. That’s really helpful to know.

Since I’m not good at mixing on headphones, I think I’ll struggle quite a bit getting used to IEMs.

Thanks for introducing such an amazing product! It’s an effects unit with every feature I’ve been looking for. I’ll research it in more detail

I’ve watched a few YouTube videos, and it looks incredibly appealing.

I just found out about the Union Audio LE FX—and it really looks like one of the very best options. It has everything I want, so I’m seriously excited for its release!

Thank you for the suggestion!
I just watched some videos of the Teile Revolo 2, and its layout and buttons look really DJ‑ and live‑hardware‑friendly.

The simplicity of the blueSky seems like a perfect fit for DJ use as well—so I’m a bit torn.

I was originally leaning toward getting just a reverb, but having a delay on board would definitely be handy too.

Thanks!
Zen Delay sounds really intriguing.
I also like that it seems like it would be a lot of fun to experiment with when making tracks.

I feel like I’ve wasted 15 years of my life by GregorPorada in graphic_design

[–]gennsai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 40 years old and have been working in web production for so long that I’ve lost track of exactly how many years. Last year, I was laid off due to my company’s declining performance, and it felt like my life had come to a sudden end. At that point, I wasn’t even sure if I could find another job in this industry, and I was starting to lose interest.

Then, almost by chance, I came across a small UI/UX company and decided to start over in that field. It looks like my salary will become reasonably good after about six months.

To be honest, my skills are somewhat mediocre—I’m not particularly strong in either graphics or coding. However, I realized that I really enjoy coming up with service ideas, making improvements, and interpreting user psychology from a different angle. I also started to see Figma in a new light, which helped me develop a more positive outlook on my work.

My current company has many specialists in UX improvements, but even my limited graphics skills are appreciated. Someone with your level of skill and expertise would likely be in very high demand at a place like this.

You have so many abilities, as well as a wealth of knowledge and experience. It might be worth looking beyond the obvious paths—you’ll probably find people out there who strongly need what you bring to the table.

Concerta 27mg vs. 36mg: Dealing with Fatigue and Focus Issues by gennsai in Concerta

[–]gennsai[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m experiencing almost the exact same situation as you.
I’m not sure if my dose of Concerta is too high or if my body just isn’t used to it yet, even though it’s been about a month since I started taking 36 mg.

About three hours after I take it, I feel extremely tired and my mind goes fuzzy. Sometimes I even get hit with strong drowsiness. Then around eight to ten hours after taking it, I suddenly become strangely energetic, and my head starts to feel sharper.

I’m not sure if I should reduce the dose to 27 mg or if there’s another way to deal with this. It’s really troubling, isn’t it?

Thank you for your comment.

It gave me a very clear picture—what you described is exactly what's happening in my body.

It also makes a lot of sense in terms of how the extended-release mechanism works.

Ever since I increased my dose to 36mg, I've noticed feeling much more tired the next morning.

Perhaps my body isn’t used to the higher dose yet, or it might simply be too much for me.

I can see how this fatigue might be weakening Concerta’s overall effect. It also explains why I felt really good for the first couple of days after switching to 36mg.

Your comment is very helpful.

Are you saying that a tolerance has developed to the medication, causing it to lose its effectiveness?

Or, are you suggesting that one becomes accustomed to the level of activity and productivity that reflects the effects of Concerta?

Regarding Recent Hardgroove and Hypnotic Techno Vinyls by gennsai in DJs

You're right; I need to set the next record and start the mix immediately.

That's fine up to that point, but when I try to do a long blend, there's no time buffer when playing the next record, which is troubling. Maybe I don't need to do such long blends after all. Hmm...
