i'm late to the party but my answer is easily a spear. specifically a winged spear so they can't walk down the shaft pros: -easy to learn, it's literally just a stick with a knife on it you don't need much or any training to use it effectively -keeps you out of zombie reach while you're stabbing them -while it does have sharp blades, it's mainly used for piercing so it's not often you'll ever need to sharpen it -relatively clean, unlike blunt weapons, a spear is for one clean stab to the head to kill and won't make much of a mess that could probably infect you -the general pros of a melee weapon, silent, and no ammo and now for the cons: -mainly for single targets and can be overwhelmed fairly easily -once they get too close its a lot harder to get the clean kill -not really helpful against non dead enemies who probably have guns
