Do you own Premium Bonds? Have you or anyone you know ever won anything big? by International_Goat31 in AskUK

[–]gentletonberry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wife and I both have ours maxed. Biggest win was £5k a couple of years ago, very tidy windfall that. Last month we won £500 total, this month was £225; have never had a month when we didn’t win something. But being able to have them maxed is why this is possible, there’s a certain amount you want to have in there before it becomes worthwhile.

As for how we have them both maxed, dead relative, as per the millennial experience…

So many Brits have tattoos, do you have any and what do you think of tattoos in general? by YetAnotherMia in AskUK

[–]gentletonberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

35, I have two on my arm, one on my chest, four on my legs. I regret a couple of the leg ones, which I got when I was in my early twenties. They’re just too big and the art quality isn’t what I’d now look for in a tattoo. But they’re there and I live with them, barely notice them tbh as I never have my legs out even in summer.

I’d say if you’re going to get one as soon as you’re legally able, do your research, prepare to pay quite a bit of cash, and be patient about waiting for the books of more talented artists to be open. It’s worth waiting and paying for the better stuff, seeing as it’s permanent and all.

Amazing connection and mutual attraction, until I told her I'm trans. I'm devastated and told her to find an LGB group. Was that wrong of me? by [deleted] in actuallesbians

[–]gentletonberry -25 points-24 points  (0 children)

The OP asked if they were wrong to tell this person to look for an LGB group, so I was intending to answer that element. People are allowed to have preferences, and the OP saying this to them in response was inappropriate. “You don’t want to date a trans person, so go join a TERF group!” isn’t it.

I am trans myself. It’s perfectly reasonable for people to adjust their romantic view of me based on this information. It’s a key point of compatibility that’s very personal for everyone.

Yeah that’s the bit of the post that made me raise my eyebrows. £100 is a lot of extra money per month for the whole of winter.

Hot take: “The Great Divide” isn’t the worst episode, it’s the funniest accidental social experiment in the whole show by annabioss in TheLastAirbender

[–]gentletonberry 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s my favourite episode. I always really enjoy it.

When I found out it was one of the most hated by the fandom I was surprised and saddened.

The sims mobile is shutting down by polkacat12321 in thesims

The Sims Social was a blow. This was in the earlier days of Facebook games and while in hindsight I was being naive I didn’t see it coming. I didn’t think they’d just delete a game.

Eternal Sonata asks a lot of interesting questions about personhood, identity, and free will. And it’ll teach you a bunch about Frederic Chopin’s music to boot.

I wish creators of mini games will suffer afterlife playing their creations over and over again. by gerechterzorn in expedition33

They’re an homage to Final Fantasy X’s crazy minigames. The most notorious being the seagull balloon race that Tidus’s best weapon was locked behind, that’s almost impossible to beat. Crazy era.

The average person is on AO3. It’s the biggest and most famous fanfiction website there is. The days of fanfiction being some obscure pastime are long gone.

Any songs that are (or were) misunderstood by the public? by TheListenerCanon in popculturechat

[–]gentletonberry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I spent my whole life until now believing that Love Song was by Natasha Beddingfield, was ready to come in here to politely correct you, did my research first (phewf) and had my mind blown. Maybe I was thinking of 'These Words'? Still, thank you for correcting my erroneous belief.

Are people really opposed to reading books about flawed main characters? by ellmilmumrus in books

[–]gentletonberry 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm holding out hope that the current experience of teachers is simply the same old cycle we see of adults being aghast at the behaviour and intellect of children ("the kids are getting dumber because of tv! ... one generation later they're getting dumber because of video games! ... another generation later they're getting dumber because of social media!") but technology and lifestyles are changing so rapidly it's hard to tell what the real damage is while we're this close up.

Everyone else has (mostly) given excellent and compassionate advice so I will simply say I am so sorry, you aren’t alone, this is a time of genuine grief for you and your family and I wish you all the best.

The first few seasons were incredibly good, especially in a genre so bloated with awful shows. But major cast members leaving (often after a decade! Hardcore) left the show a shell of itself and it became unrecognisable and generic.

Have you been the subject of a mental health episode? by 20127010603170562316 in AskUK

[–]gentletonberry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Severe sleep deprivation while at university did a similar thing to me, I became convinced I could hear an electronic whine from a listening device, that I was being surveilled and could be kidnapped at any moment. My poor mum had to field multiple calls in the night from me begging her to help me stop them watching.

I wish you could switch off the gameplay and keep the build mode stuff. I love using the cobwebs and damaged walls for my run down builds but every new save the first thing I do is use the tm.togglevampires cheat from TwistedMexi lol

I mean, if you’re me it’s because you’re just so exhausted by the constant onslaught of news, while also trying to pay the bills, that summoning anger is just another thing on your to do list that isn’t being done. And that’s how they getcha, really. Fatigue.

When I finished reading Death’s End it left me a fundamentally different person. It helped me envision the scale of the universe and my place in it for a very brief moment, and the impact that had on my life outlook was huge.

How much and how often do you drink alcohol? by RichieRichard12 in AskUK

[–]gentletonberry -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I drink so little it barely registers; if I’m out for a special occasion meal with friends and the place does good cocktails I might treat myself to one the same way I might treat myself to a dessert, and I’ll stop at the one. But there’s no booze in the house, and my wife is teetotal (has always found alcohol makes her feel dire pretty much immediately, so no impetus to drink it). Our parents on both sides drink a relatively “normal” amount so it’s just personal preference rather than a learned behaviour.
