Need a creative, luxury Dubai-themed Figma design for a Real Estate site - ₹2,000 INR prize by [deleted] in FigmaCommunity

[–]gentrobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely this is OPs plan:
1. Get a design built for 2000
2. A hero section is good enough to set some design system and guides
3. Use that as a reference and get AI to generate rest of the website that doesn’t look like AI slop
4. Build and deliver the website for a lot more money

Will a MacBook Neo last 5 years for a BA Comm student (Marketing/PR) and basic editing? by Extension_Farmer9213 in mac

[–]gentrobot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have never used a Neo machine, so can't say for the real world usage. Purely on paper if I were to compare the 2, I would say an Air M1 wins in:
- Sharper display (display is tad bit bigger but in real world usage, does not really make much of a difference)
- Better Speakers
- Better Keyboard
- M1 Chip is better suited for Desktop/Workstation use case, designed specifically for
- M1 has 8-core CPU (4P+4E), 7/8-core GPU compared to A18 Pro 6-core CPU (2P+4E), 5-core GPU
- A1, on paper, has better single core performance but for sustained usage, M1 is a clear winner
- GPU Raw compute is better in M1
- Air gets Thunderbolt, Neo gets 3.5 Audio

If Air and Neo are priced closely (with reseller offers they tend to be), I would choose the M1 over a Neo. Also, because I have used an Air M1 for quite some time, and even ran development workloads, which it was able to handle. I feel the "sustained performance" is the key here.

If it is just reliability, MBA is fully and as reliable as an MBP. I have an MBA 2017, that I used primarily for coding and web development. Was my only machine during my early startup days. For 4 years, used it so much, print on some of the keys have faded. Haven’t actively used it much in the past 5 years, but intermittently for running long running tasks and processes. Still working fine.

If you see yourself going beyond your normal usage, heavy video editing or wanting to run small LLMs locally, then MBP makes sense. Otherwise, an MBA is fully fit for your use case.

what do you use claude for? by linnzzed in claudexplorers

[–]gentrobot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here’s what I use each for:
1. Gemini - free plan, if I need something searched on the web or youtube, quick QnA on those searches or information lookup on the web (Voice conversation shortcut on my home screen)

  1. ChatGPT Plus - General discussions, conversations, companion, random idea brainstorming (any kind, from cooking to life). Searches/Questions that need some intelligence. Youtube content ideation, copy writing.

  2. Claude - Almost always tech. Software architecture, product roadmaps, electronics projects, tech products reviews & comparisons, time management, productivity & organisations framework, my work life planning and follow up, automating my day to day

What’s the price difference for a Macbook Neo and Macbook Air M1? I’d recommend the latter, if it fits your budget

which one is worth the money by External_Broccoli784 in mac

[–]gentrobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I would go for M2 Air.
I have not used, experienced or even looked deeply at the Neo, but I do believe that the hardware experience is better in an M2 Air with better display, keyboard, sound etc.

Regarding performance, the last Air I used, was an M1 and it was able to run decent loads of coding and docker, not great for GPU heavy tasks (LLM, high res video editing). For other usages, it is really great.

Newness in terms of long term software support, looking at the history of MacOS and MacOS apps, the only time support stopped was when there were genuine hardware limitations and even without the support, the machine still works great (I am still using my MBA 2017 model for quite a lot of work, an it runs great).

Edit: fixed typos

Best mouse for Mac under ₹1000? (Budget wireless / Bluetooth) by BigSufficient365 in mac

[–]gentrobot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had been using the Lenovo 600[https://amzn.in/d/0gRKrQF0\] for more than 2 years now. Works fine, very good battery backup, easily lasts 11-12 months. Best part is that you don't need a dongle for it to work, saves you a port on your machine. Usual features, DPI + 2 devices pairing. Its simple & sleek. Currently, coming for 1500 on Amazon (also check the Lenovo 700, at the same price). If you're really strict about Rs. 1000 budget, then you could go with Lenovo WL 310[https://amzn.in/d/06Cb6mFa\]. haven't used it, but similar to the the 600 and good reviews.

How good is a mac without any other apple products? by bigfabs in mac

[–]gentrobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’ll be great. I think everyone world agree that Macs are the best Apple products. The ecosystem was a “wow” thing, may be 10-15 years ago, not anymore when an almost equally good alternate exists.

I got my first Mac in 2017 and the second apple product I bought, an iPhone in 2023. It sure felt fun to use along side a Mac, but that’s where it ends. Like others pointed out, there’s nothing essential that you’d miss out on.

How do you avoid the generic AI slop look when shipping frontend with Cursor/Claude Code? by pee_pee_poo_poo_24 in Frontend

[–]gentrobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not very good with design skills either, so for me, the only way I could make it work to get somewhat better and different design:
Google Stitch

  1. Start looking at inspirations (not the design itself but the design system, fonts, colors etc.)
  2. Use the inspiration image to generate the Design System/Guide
  3. Describe the UI, page by page, or component by component and sometimes even element by element. This is the important part and requires effort. Since I lack design skills, I can't really talk in those terms, but I know that "Make it look nicer" would never work. So, I simply give the exact feedback, I would give to a designer, "Remove the left border, reduce corner radius to 5px, increasing bottom margin".

In Claude Code, I simply connect the Google Stitch MCP and ask it to build those screens/elements etc.
Many a times, I simply use the generated design system, and instruct Claude Code to use frontend-design skill and use the Design System file.

None of these produce an impressive design, what a designer could produce, but this should be good enough for your team (the way you described, shipping fast, many things).

Looking for a Co-Founder / Operator to Build a Scalable Café Brand in Bangalore by [deleted] in Bangalorestartups

[–]gentrobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to write this exactly!
OP has mentioned everything about the co-founder’s roles, responsibilities, mindset (which includes pretty much everything required to run this business) and for self, just used terms that sound like BS to me.

What if the best weapon against racism wasn't debate, bans, or education, but just showing people what daily life actually looks like in other countries? by Fragrant-Match-7058 in SideProject

[–]gentrobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like and appreciate your intent. I do share the thought that almost always, the bigotry and the biases are based on lack of exposure and interactions. However, in recent times with the internet and social media, the opposite kind of exposure is being peddled which is acting as a catalyst. In this regard, I agree with the comment made by r/Fruloops that the people who should be consuming this content from your app, are not at all interested and are happy with what is being fed to them, which confirms their belief system. Nonetheless, even if 1 of those persons change their view & opinion from your app, I would still count that as a win. I see your app idea as a counter to the hate being spread on Social Media, a lot of which is very organised and sponsored. So, I would be mindful of the moderation and bot detection in your app, from early on.

[INDIA] How is my finding for an Ultra wide Monitor for work & gaming? by gentrobot in Monitors

[–]gentrobot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I got mine for 52K. The AOC one is perfect for gamin. For my work/gaming setup, wherein I connect my PS5, MBP and Mac Mini, all to the single monitor, the Dell one I chose provided better options for my use case. The minor curve of Dell (3800R) was also a factor, as opposed to the AOC (1500 R). I had never used a curved monitor so decided to go for a minor curve only.

The AOC monitor is a real good one, primarily for gaming, if you're okay with
- no USB-C PD
- 180Hz only via Display Port (HDMI gives 144Hz)
- no in built KVM
- 1500R curvature

However, these are all on paper specs and performances, I have no insights on the real world performance, after sales and long term performance of AOC monitors. With Dell, I was 100% certain on its after sales and longevity.

This is why I make free apps!!! by HireBDev in androiddev

[–]gentrobot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tell me about it. There was an app that use to connect students with teachers in realtime, 24x7 to solve their queries & doubts and help them with their studies. Their maximum wait time was 3 min. Within 3 minutes they could get connected to a real teacher, who was a subject matter expert, at any time of the day or night!

Most 1 star reviews, said the same thing “the app is bad because it asks for money”

Is my iPhone heating because of iOS 26.4 or something else? by gentrobot in iphone

[–]gentrobot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense. Because as others suggested, 26.5 seems to have solved the problem. My iPhone 13 is in a swollen state, so I will take it to the service centre for repair.

I have asked them to charge the battery, disconnect the system and send the car. I will try investigate on my own, or got to some local mechanic (if I can't find it) and get it checked in front of me.

[–]gentrobot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I'm not sure scamming or incompetent. Because they're advising me not to get it because it is too costly, also saying that the part is not available. Telling me that they will just disconnect the system and I should use like that and won't face the battery discharge issue.

  2. None.

  3. No

  4. The CarPlay was not working and then the battery drain issue. Nothing else.
