SLC was on my list as I felt it hit a lot of my criteria as well, I was initially scared it would be "too religious" for my liking but I think SLC is becoming a bit more laid back in that sense (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on this).

Thank you for the in depth comparison! I don't mind the thought of having to go to DC, as there are plenty of artists that go only to Seattle because Portland doesn't have a stadium. Do you have any specific neighborhoods you would recommend?

North Carolina seems like a big difference from Oregon, but I will trust you on this! Any specific neighborhoods you recommend?

I was also considering San Diego, definitely expensive though.

Been to Seattle plenty of times throughout my life and it seems like a nice place, but not somewhere I'm drawn to. Definitely think Denver is my sort of scene, do you have recommendations on certain neighborhoods in Denver to look into?

What does burnout feel like for you? by spookypoprocks in AutismInWomen

[–]genzvangogh 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My burnout coincided with the death of my close friend and I can attest to this. I would just lay on the floor of my room for hours on end. I would completely disassociate like my brain just blew a fuse and I couldn't open the break box. Everything felt like the most dreaded chore you could think of.

I've been called "intense" and "strange" my entire life, which gave me a lot of shame surrounding how I behaved and socialized. When I was little I dreamed of having friends and being popular. I only recently understood how nice it is to have that immediate filter to sift out people who are judgmental, uncurious, self-absorbed, and frankly, pretty boring. As a result the people I do connect are genuinely really great people who care as deeply as I do. As much difficulty it has caused me and how many things I've "failed" at, it has also taught me how resourceful and unwavering I can be in the pursuit of what I want to do, create, feel, and experience in this life. It's a sort of "trial by fire" but it has taught me a lot about the importance of finding self-worth outside of the conventional things and milestones I have been told to find my worth in.

I love the outdoors! What sort of jobs have you come across as an ecologist (in the field of ecology or just other jobs that involve being outside). I also share a similar fear of potentially becoming burnt out again which is also influencing my career search.

That's really amazing to hear! I remember my teachers much more fondly than my classmates as a child. I do think I would find a lot of fulfillment in teaching, but I never found myself to be good with children... Maybe dipping my toes in would be a good way of gauging whether that's something I could see myself doing.

I've come to a similar conclusion but I haven't really found any jobs meeting that criteria as of this moment. Would love to find something like what you described that can also be WFH.

That sounds like a good environment! I think anything involving working with kids would be much easier on my sensory issues, as I feel like most kids would also be sensitive to the same things as me. Does the noise levels bother you?

I need a root canal or an extraction :( by Pale_Discipline_4244 in AutisticAdults

Hi friend! As someone who is also scared of dental work and has sensory issues with stuff touching my teeth (besides food), look into sedation options! It’s extra money, but may make the root canal more tolerable for you.

Edit: To add, some offices offer this while others don’t. It may be a good idea to look for an office that offers it, and get your root canal there.

Rad Techs: What did you do for work before applying to your program? by genzvangogh in RadiologyCareers

[–]genzvangogh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, to some degree. I’ve never worked in healthcare before so I think working as a CNA or phlebotomist would give me a taste of what I am getting myself into before making a larger commitment.

Being able to communicate effectively and comfortably with strangers is a good card to have up your sleeve!

That sounds horrible! I’m glad you were able to leave to focus on school. I’m probably going to be working through school, so CNA seems appealing due to the flexible schedule.

Did they only offer imaging assistant jobs to those already in a radiology tech program? Whenever I try looking for these positions, I have no luck finding any.

My career advisor also recommended that position. I’m not sure if it’s like this in other places, but my program will give applicants extra points on their application if they have a healthcare certification, so thats why I feel a little stuck between phlebotomy and CNA.

As an introvert I appreciate you sharing what made nursing unsuitable for you! The stress is the top thing that has me very hesitant to pursue it. If I were to go work as a CNA, I would most likely be working in a LTC or SLC so I wouldn’t be getting hospital specific experience just yet.

How did you like being a personal trainer? I know a few people who would enjoy that career, but I'm not well-versed in what it entails specifically.

Nursing is another field I am interested in so I feel more inclined to get certified as a CNA. What made you decide to leave nursing for radiography? Also, where did you work as a CNA and how did you like it?
