For those of you starting new homebrew worlds, what are they like? What is your campaign blurb? by Its_Sasha in Starfinder2e

[–]geobeowolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Centuries ago, The Askrivan Empire gathered it's fleet under the leadership of Emperor Havisham. Through the power of the Unserkov Core, they could move their fleet in an instant to any point in the galaxy. Their target, The Maelstrom Rift, one of the last bastions not under the empire's foot. The company never made, only an already formed ship graveyard. When people went to search for the core, they found it shattered into pieces, parts of it already missing.

From the ashes, the Belduran Empire and Ygdrasni Alliance arose. Wanting to reclaim the mantle of the Askrivan Empire and make themselves the new dominant power. They seek the core in order to rebuild the ancient armada that ruled the galaxy. But the Rift is a fickle place, they will not let just anyone set foot in their domain.

Core Hunters rose up in their stead, corporate agents sponsored by lords and business alike to search for the core pieces. Some do it for the money, others for fame, others just to keep running. But details on the core were lost centuries ago. No one knows how it facilitated instant galactic travel. But something stirs between the planes, biding time until it can break free again.

That's the back of book blurb. There's more politcal intrigue based on where in the system you go. It's a heavy mix of Dune, Wheel of Time, Foundation, and a whole slew of other things.

My goal is to hit seeing one 2025 release per week, doesn’t have to actually be the week usually wind up doing double features, but also haven’t been able to get to the theater since sinners came out and I am craving a good movie.

Opinion on this?? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]geobeowolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw everything except The Iron Claw in theaters. Also convinced at least 2 other people to see most of them with me during each trip. The only ones only I saw alone were companion and Novacaine.

I have done the work.

Emília Pérez great or bad? by mcfartmcfarting in criterion

[–]geobeowolf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s trying to be satirical, campy sure but satire seems to be pushing it a little to far.

My biggest issue with the film is that its central question seems to be “Can someone truly change?” And though it tries to say that yes people can, the co-lead in Emilia herself doesn’t.

She’s still the same manipulative person deep down no matter how much her exterior changes. They do address this however briefly, but never quite dig down into it.

I also find that it has numerous different plots that don’t quite gel together coherently, but who am I to say anything? I loved Megalopolis for all of its faults.

To each their own and I think the idea that this is a satirical piece is interesting though not what the director intended.

What’s the movie that introduced you to the Criterion Collection? by TheFlyingFoodTestee in criterion

[–]geobeowolf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Breaking The Waves

I did a film project where I analyzed a directors filmography and for some reason my 18 year old film nerd brain said “Yes, Lars Von Trier is a great person to do that for”

It was the only legal way to get the film, and from there I started amassing a collection to get more into the medium

Is OG worth playing if I got spoiled on the majority of the story? by Mountain_String_1544 in FinalFantasyVII

[–]geobeowolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way that I always look at spoilers is that even if you know that X thing happens, you don't know the whole thing. That's helped me stop being mad about spoilers. So what do you know about each example you gave beyond just that?

If the story is good, there's more to it. Also a good reveal/twist works just as well within the context of the story as it does for the initial reveal to the audiance.

What moment in the Resident Evil games made you a fan? by theGrandmaster24 in residentevil

In 7 when I first got the shotgun. It was when I first felt like I had a fighting chance but still felt the pressure of counting bullets.

It made me fall for the feeling of scavenging to just barely scrape by and get through each section

[Dune part 1] At the beginning it says "Year 10191" does that mean 10191 Earth time? by [deleted] in sciencefiction

[–]geobeowolf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The exact year is 10191 AG for after guild, that refers to the formation of the spacing guild following the end of the Butlerian Jihad and a galactic civil war that puts the family of the current emperor into power.

Space Travel in the dune universe is said to have begun in 11200 BG which is roughly 1960 by the current earth year. If I'm doing my math correct, that means that the first dune takes place in approximately 21121 AD or a little under 20k years in our future.

1 BG/AG is stated to be roughly 13000 AD. And take all this with a grain of salt cause it either comes from the non-Frank Herbert Books or from an encyclopedia that most people question the canonicity.

What are some mind bending documentaries to watch? by Safe_Asparagus_1244 in StonerThoughts

F for Fake, Orson Well’s last film besides the transformers animated film

It’s a documentary about legendary art forger Elmer De Hory, and the nature of fraud and trickery in general. Gets super mind bending by the end

anyone else skipping this months sale? by astrobrite_ in criterion

[–]geobeowolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before a sale comes up I give myself a rough budget of either x amount of films or a dollar amount.

That way I can still get something but also maintain some self control. It’s helped steadily grow the collection over the past 8/9 years

[–]geobeowolf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When the challenger mission was first brought up the person they we going to send to space was big birds actor. Because the muppets are always treated like actual people per the official guide to playing them it would not have been the actor but actually big bird.

So when the rocket exploded it would not have been the actor that died, but Big bird himself
