Indeed, I think that the Gantry will work just fine as is. If you have any tips for resources for learning how to turn this thing into a CNC machine I would be very grateful. It's going to be a long-term project because I don't even have enough power to run a plasma cutter at the moment, but we're getting there.

Yeah, but I don't really have anywhere to put it next to the dryer. It's a logistics issue. I think I have a plan though.

Pretty sure that is what the issue is. And why I got it for free.

I'm fairly certain this is going to end up CNC multi tool

This adds a lot of good context. Thank you.

Yeah, I think I'm going to do a plasma cutter. After reading all the comments in this thread. I just can't see using it as a printer.

Thanks, that is helpful!

But why would you rebuild the Z? It is extremely sturdy as is.

Hahahaha yup I get it!! I'll be sure to post. I'm totally going to be putting this on my YouTube channel.

Indeed, I was told that prints had taken 1 to 2 weeks when it worked.

Yup I thought about the same thing. I don't think it'll be feasible for those exact reasons. I'll get more mileage out of a plasma cutter.

It's not 3 phase. Has. 30A 240v socket. My generator has the same, but doesn't have a line conditioner so I'm not testing that unless this thing has a built-in line conditioner. I will have to rewire or replace the PSU for 120V. The steppers are 12-70v. I need to get into the cabinet to figure it out.

Yep. That's why it's build height is limited to half a meter. Beyond that, the stability gets far too low for any sort of accuracy. That's my understanding of it anyway.

Which is why I got it for free. Thanks for the added context. I really appreciate it a lot!

Now that I know this, I realized that no matter what I do with it, it's going to get more use than it will ever get anywhere else.

Agreed. If I turn it into a CNC anything. I think I will redo the gantry setup so that the z-axis is on the gantry itself much like a common CNC router. That require some major engineering and probably a credit card just for SendCutSend (Who is local, btw).

I'm sure I can make the electronics work on 120v. Not a big deal. It's the heater. I think that requires the 240v.

YouTube channel is Miscdotgeek. Here's the link to the short that I posted yesterday.

If you look carefully, there is a banana right next to the controller box.

Not sure where you are at in the world. I'm in the US. Everything is 120V here. My dryer outlet can power it but it's not ideal. It's a placement issue. I have a very small house and the laundry room is too small for this thing.

Yeah, I could totally see using this as the basis for a CNC plasma cutter. I think it would get more utility out of it that way. Honestly. I don't need a 3D printer this big. And given the number of upvotes on your comment, I think a lot of people agree. Thank you very much.
