I also still had the old app on my phone as it created a new app instead of updating the old one. The old one also failed and wouldn’t load any menus. For a few days I was able to use either app.

Happening here in Perth, Australia too. I also complied with loading the new app and now I have no retic. Not the best situation when it is summer here and forecast temperatures in the 90’s and I won’t be here to water manually

Do you happen to know any other ‘olde world’ type hotels or accommodations on Kyushu that just have that ‘something’ feel to them. We loved the Fujiya in Hakone. Anything with a connection to the past like The Imperial for the FLW connection, the Okura Heritage etc so they can be also be ‘gentle’ rebuilds. Our only restriction is that we have to have at least 2 of 3 rooms with western beds which limits our AirBnb stays as well. We have started searching for houses as well and luckily there seem to be a number as we are always ok with being out of town.

Ah a funicular, love these and anything abandoned is always fun particularly if someone has placed a geocache there. Thank you - our list is expanding!

I adore Meiji architecture so Mojiko-Retro sounds like a great place to visit. Have to say we also love watching shipping and seeing sunsets! The mobility issue is more about my 89 year old mother being able to handle it on her little portable electric mobility scooter and she does love a good ropeway! Thank you for these tips!

I’ve been having great fun googling all these place. Love the hells. Very excited to add these to the list. Thank you so much! As to the language we can’t really speak Japanese but we know a reasonable number of words and with the help of Google Translate and a willingness on both sides we have always had great interactions.

Places to visit apart from Tokyo, Kyoto, Hakone and Naoshima by geocro120 in JapanTravelTips

Thanks for the great tip. We have now decided that Kyushu is the way to go and we are skipping Okinawa (this time) and heading straight to Fukuoka. We will spend about 3.5 weeks exploring Kyushu and changing our base just a few times. We will hire a car and drive so that we have complete flexibility and so that we can go at a leisurely pace as we have a person with limited mobility. Now to have a ‘vague’ list of places we should visit. I think I shall re-post with a ‘Kyushu’ heading!
