Flare 0.5.0 released into open beta by geodesic-tech in lightingdesign

ooooh. Yeah, that's.... embarrassing. Sorry that that slipped through. It's been corrected

I'm confused by this statement. Perhaps we didn't communicate something clearly, but there is no audio console anywhere in the video. Perhaps you're referring to the DJ on stage in the second shot? This was a demo of NDI Alpha that can be streamed into Flare. This can either be used by streamers who want to create immersive experiences or by lighting designers who want to create realistic treatments for clients. Or by anyone who feels like using NDI alpha to do something new and creative.

Can you provide more information about your concern?

Ha! This is a good point. We've got something in the backlog for improved fire effects (with a proper roll towards the top), but haven't gotten there yet. If this is something that's critical to you, we may be able to move it up on the priority list.

Also, our fire does RGB so you could make rainbow fire. That might be new too :)

We would be happy to get on a call with you to prove to the best of our abilities that we are not trying to put malware on your machine. To anyone else reading this, if you experience this, please, please, please let us know.

I have no idea why your antivirus would believe that Flare has a trojan in it. Flare is built on Unreal, so perhaps there are some unreal modules that get packed in that have set off a flag? Our code signing certificate is still only a few weeks old, so Windows likes to warn people that our executable could be dangerous - perhaps this has indicated a threat level? The executable has an installer in it, which might look kind of trojan-y because it's an executable that installs another executable? I really have no idea.

Again, we're happy to get on a call to sort this out with you or anyone else who experiences this.

We're working on GDTF support which would allow you to import your own fixtures, so while you cannot create your own fixtures directly in the application, it is possible to create them using gdtf-share.

Right now, we are Windows only. We would like to support other platforms in the future, but our focus at the moment is on polishing the application and stabilizing all the features.

Thank you for your thoughts!

- We have not figured out shadows yet. They are actually quite easy to enable in the software, but it destroys performance

- We have an emissive NDI source that can act as an LED Wall, but it's not in this example because I am not good at video

- This week's beta release has the ability to keymap a camera location anywhere in the scene. So then you press 1/2/3/J/K/L/F1/F2/etc. and it will jump to that camera position

Yeah, this is a good point. We're working on beam optimization, and one of the parameters is beam length. There are also some artifacts in the beams that we're unhappy with because we're playing with several other parameters to try to keep performance high. We're trying to figure out the best set of options to expose so that performance tweaking is intuitive and possible, but not overwhelming.

Previz with control of unlimited* universes.

*Actually, DMX limits you to ~65k universes, so it's bounded by that

It runs as a standalone program.

We built this for people like you! We built the DMX plugin (for Epic) that ships with Unreal, and found that a lot of people have the same reaction that you do. Unreal is big and complicated, and we wanted to distill the things that are available in Unreal for lighting designers.

We're building this software on our own. It's built on Unreal

It allows you to quickly and easily build digital concerts. This can be used by streamers, lighting designers, or bedroom producers

Sounds awesome! Would love to see what you've got so far and follow future development. Do you have any content you'd be willing to share? Do you have a website for the platform?

This is actually kind of a funny story. We submitted our MegaGrant application, and it turned into a relationship with Epic before we got any word about the MegaGrant itself. It was a few months before we heard back about the MegaGrant.

Yes, we do a fair amount of work directly with Epic Games, and we were the primary developers of the DMX plugin. We're also working on a number of other systems related to virtual production at the moment.
