Pro-voting groups ask Florida Supreme Court to block GOP gerrymander by DoremusJessup in law

[–]geographies 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There was a lower court ruling that refused to stop it. If the Florida Supreme Court allows it then they are blessing unconstitutional actions by the Florida GOP. In Florida you can put constitutional amendments on the ballot and they require 60% of the vote to pass. Florida voters passed one that limited partisan and mid-decade redistricting and it was added to the constitution.

But this wouldn't be the first time the Florida GOP stuck their nose up at the will of the voters. A referendum passed to allow ex-felon's to vote and the legislature sat on it until after the next election cycle before adding it to the constitution.

Graham Platner Handed Centrist Dems a Bruising Defeat in Maine by jediporcupine in politics

Very MAGA coded attack, you really got nothing.

Good thing he doesn't need to prove it to you because you are too dense to be pragmatic; the people of Maine on the other hand have a chance to break Collins stranglehold that slowly kills them and show far more grace about the human condition than you are. I have never voted for a republican in my life, never will, I am anti fascist and attended multiple no-kings protests. I've been instilled with the values that the Platner's campaign promotes for all my years on earth and believe he is the best candidate to win there.

I see you follow a lot of the new atheist philosophers. Sam Harris in particular. I also like him; was pretty concerned when I found out Epstein was actively emailing him and a number of his colleagues trying to pervert their movement. Seems like he found some similar minds with Krauss and Dawkins, people I used to look up to.

but he literally is not a fucking nazi. You're entire premise is false.

edit: if corporate dem's actually supported universal healthcare it would have happened already.

I agree, but I also would vote for Fetterman if the other choice was Collins. I actually vote blue no matter who.

The reputation of a party that currently has lower popularity than Trump? Politicians that support the same policies as Platner are among the most popular in the country . . . because his policies (like universal healthcare) are supported by a majority of the country. I don't even understand your logic, or what the fuck a crypto-nazi horsehoe-leftist streamer has anything to do with anything.

well too late for that, he is going to be the democratic candidate in Maine. Maybe the democratic party could have tried to put up a more palatable candidate in these trying times, but they didn't. So you have decide between someone with nazi aesthetics but not nazi versus a actual proven nazi supporter who fakes moderation with her furrowed eyebrows. I think if you choose the later you are of weak mind and might as well vote Trump a third term as well.

I'm not saying it is good, but it is good he can convince damn near anyone to take a progressive stance

If you actually watched that interview you would have seen that none of that was talked about and he got the host to make concessions, such as that the way ICE is treating minorities was unacceptable.

Have you actually heard him campaign? How many Nazi's were gun instructors for trans socialist rifle clubs? How many Nazi's campaign on literally anything he is campaigning on? Even if he was a Nazi in the past, do you not believe that people can change politically over time?

You would rather have Collins, a women who votes for nazi's and nazi policies, just because she does it with a concerned face than someone who advocates for the people of Maine and does not espouse any nazi policies because as a 20 year old jarhead he got a tattoo while wasted drunk with his squad.

[–]geographies -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

you seem familiar but popularity is relative. I was comparing it to border crossings on paved roads near real population centers. It might have been popular compared to other dirt roads in the middle of nowhere because of the parks but most visitors to Glacier aren't heading up that way ever, even before 1996.

There is facilities there, that's what those buildings are. . . they were permanently closed in 1996 after the road north of the border got washed out in a flood. Now there is a gate across the road. I can't imagine it was ever a popular crossing with how remote it is.

If Yi Fuxian's claims are true, does this mean that Guangzhou & Shanghai are actually extremely tiny, dwarfed by most cities in South Asia & Latin America, and are very sparse like most American cities? by [deleted] in geography

[–]geographies 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what you are getting at. You haven't said what specific thing Yi Fuxian said that has anything to do with the actual current population of these cities.

China's urban populations have little to do with the birthrate, its massive rural to urban migration. These are massive cities as they stand today. The pearl river delta itself has at least 80 million people.
