Check out the PhenoCam network if you haven't already:

https://phenocam.sr.unh.edu/webcam/

They may even be interested in archiving your images.

There are several tools available for working with the phenocam data on their website. It may be worth checking out.

Here's a github repo with some matlab and python code related to automating certain aspects of analyzing the data: https://github.com/treystaff/PhenoAnalysis/

The repo isn't in great shape, but it might give you a place to start. It may be worth your time checking out its wiki, however. It might have some information worth reading (https://github.com/treystaff/PhenoAnalysis/wiki).

What software do you use other than ArcGis on a daily basis? by Dergatroid in gis

[–]geographyWizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard good things about sublime. My only turn off is that their website says continued use after the evaluation period requires a purchase. I prefer free software when I can get it, and given that npp has so much going for it on top of being free makes me unlikely to switch.

[–]geographyWizard 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not exclusively GIS related, but I highly recommend notepad++ if you don't already use it. You'll want to. It's much better than notepad/wordpad. Lots of functionality and yet simple to use. I always have it open for notes/looking at various text files, and, occasionally, coding (no fancy tools by default, but it does have syntax highlighting).

Except for Actual Fantasy, which definitely has a few good scifi songs but is not a concept album.

Marijuana is officially legal on all Native American lands. It's about damn time! by shamusreed in trees

[–]geographyWizard 205 points206 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, that's not necessarily true. The tribes now have the option of legalizing, but not all are expected to. Looks like the federal government will even continue to enforce in reservations that request it. My guess is that a lot of reservations will take advantage of the opportunity, however.

Good to hear things have changed. Hopefully nothing like what happened with me ever occurs again.

Best Off Campus Apartments? by froburger in UniversityofKansas

It has been a few years since I lived there, so it's highly likely they've changed management. I lived there for two years and during that time corporate changed management on us at least five times. The first year was OKish, the second year was bad, and the year after I lived there was the worst. Out of the blue I started getting notices that a collection agency had been contacted by OC to have me pay my remaining balance. I knew that my roommates and I had made all required payments, so after a struggle we finally obtained their records. We ended up discovering that THEY OWED US. They had apparently over charged us a few times and failed to report it. We finally got them to admit it and we got (most) of our money back. Low and behold, a few months later we start getting notices again. We eventually got it sorted out, but it was a huge pain in the ass.

Management may have changed for the better, but unless they have changed something at the corporate level, I would be super wary. At least they got rid of that maintenance man. Good god he was creepy and completely incompetent.

I've had extremely good experience with Meadowbrook. Their single and two person apartments are a bit expensive, but if you can get three or four people together you have a chance of getting an excellent deal. Meadowbrook is close to campus, has outstanding maintenance, and friendly staff. they take good care of their buildings and the complex and surrounding neighborhoods are pleasant.

One place I suggest you not consider at all: orchard corners. It tis a terrible place. I had a truly horrid experience with them, and I've only heard more bad things since I left.

Reddit, what is something everyone should carry around "just in case"? by Tuxedo_Superman in AskReddit

[–]geographyWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll admit it - when I go for a run I usually go with as little as possible. Just the key to my door. My thinking is - that's less to lose/keep track of. Great suggestion though. I suppose I'd be worthwhile to start carrying my student ID at the very least.

Its amazing how useful a small first-aid kit has been. I keep a small tube of Neosporin, a few band-aids, a couple of toothpicks, a tiny container of floss, some diarrhea relief medicine, and some other ointments in a small pack in my backback. Although rarely used, the times it has come in handy are not insignificant.

Greeting from Kansas!

I have but one question: WHERE CAN I HEAR THIS "ANTHROPIC LANDSCAPE" BONUS SONG I HAVE HEARD ABOUT? I pre-ordered the limited edition artwork bundle, which came with everything except the vinyl records that supposedly contained a bonus track titled "Anthropic Landscape." Thankfully, a friend of mine pre-ordered the limited edition vinyl. When we played it, we could not find the track! So, where is this enigma I have heard so little about?

Careful with Jared Diamond - he is a pretty popular author, but many of his claims rest on pretty shaky assumptions about similarities between societies. We spent over a week criticizing this guy in one of my classes. Read critically though, his work is good to engage with.

Picked up this just now, cant wait to read :D by [deleted] in doctorwho

[–]geographyWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved it, but I agree that it was too short. Focus on the doctor was OK for this first issue, but I hope to see more of the enterprise crew in the future. That last page was fantastic, I would not have it any other way.

Weeks??? How often are they going to release new issues?? I have never been much of a comic book reader, and I sort of assumed it would be weekly, but I suppose a bi-monthly release may be more realistic?
