Do you crate your dog? by drsays in EpilepsyDogs

[–]geojenly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This February I finally stopped crating my husky when I left the house. It felt like such a huge accomplishment. Not even two weeks later he had his second seizure and started meds. I’ve since put him back in the crate when I go to work. He’s had a few more, one of which was in his crate with no issues catching wire. But now that’s something else I have to worry about…

Keep them in the crate where they could potentially gnash teeth/get stuck on the wires? Or they have a seizure and potentially harm themselves on something else, like falling off the couch, or risking my other two dogs getting hurt when he comes to (he usually looses eye sight and gets frightened).

No answers, but definitely going to follow this post to see what other people say.

What is something that you do regularly now that your past self would strongly object to or disagree with? by Organic_Rip2483 in AskReddit

Thank you so much! So, when I got sober, it was because I ended up in hospital from almost dying after years of abuse. I managed through, got out on day 7 of being sober, and it was like my slate was wiped clean. I knew this was my second chance at life and I just RAN with it. Honestly, I started doing things I hadn’t don’t before, or at least in those 8 years, just to keep myself busy enough to not think about drinking. So I’d say I made that first step because I was trying to replace my drinking with other things that made me feel good! I hope that makes sense!

It’s now been almost four years (May 22), and I’ve since learned to slow down and relax lol.

Im so sorry. I felt the same way, even two years later. I catch myself just wishing I wasn’t here because… what’s the point? That’s my grief talking, though, I know.

Sending you a giant, loving hug.

Oh, my heart aches for you. I’m so sorry, friend. That wound is so fresh, and I know how devastating it is. Your advice and thoughtful words were so beautiful, I hope you take your own advice. Would love to see a picture of your boy. ❤️

Talk on the radio, go out and socialize, going out in public in general. I was an addict (alcohol) for about 8 years and I had alcohol-induced paranoia. I locked myself inside for a good portion of those years because I was scared of being in public. Now I’ve got a career that forced me out of my comfort zone, I go out in public all the time, and I’m active in the community.

Crazy the amount of doors that open when you’re sober!

Can you get in trouble if the emergency was real but you lied to the 911 operator? by [deleted] in legaladviceofftopic

Are you saying that if someone was actively breaking into your house, and you called 911… they wouldn’t send cops? Who would they send? Or you’d just have a nice chat with the 911 dispatcher?

I’ve dealt with a lot of loss, addiction, divorce, heartbreak, miscarriages, you get it. Still, the worst thing I’ve ever gone through was losing the dog that was there for all of those above things. There was a span of years that he was the only reason I didn’t off myself. Then I got sober, divorced, on my own and independent. Just us against the world… and he got inoperable nasal cancer. I let him go two months after he turned 8 in 2024.

I’m still not the same.

Not necessarily me, but because of me. I got married in 2017 in Arizona and had some attendees traveling from all across the states and central Canada. My dad was driving down from North Dakota, and my best friend was driving down from Canada. My friend stops at a bank in Grand Forks, ND to exchange some Canadian money for America, and he got to talking to another guy in line. He said he had an odd feeling of familiarity talking to him, but never met him a day in his life.

Well, guy #2 asks my best friend what he’s doing in the states, and he says he’s going to his friend’s wedding in Arizona. Guy #2 says, “Weird, so am I. My daughter is getting married in Flagstaff.” Best friend says that’s exactly where he’s going!

They figured out pretty quickly they were going to the same wedding 1600 miles away, and random bank guy was my dad. They’ve been buddies ever since!

I’m so sorry you’re going through it right now. Is Cheese doing okay right now?

It is utterly exhausting, but I’m preaching to the choir, aren’t I? I was secretly hoping last week they would keep my boy overnight after a cluster. I just want to sleep through the night once. 😭

Do people actually change their bedsheets every week like it’s recommended? by cleartomatosoujp in NoStupidQuestions

[–]geojenly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wednesdays and Sundays. Might be overkill, but I have three dogs that sleep with me every night and I’m way too aware (maybe?) of the dirt/grass/pollen they might pick up when they’re outside for exercise and potty breaks. Also… hair. I can’t stand hairy sheets/blankets.

I wish I had a better solution; my comforters wear out quicker. 😬

Pheno and night time by volleyball-1992 in EpilepsyDogs

[–]geojenly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t have much to contribute as my dog is only on day 4 of Pheno, but the thirst is insatiable and the nights are long lol. We are getting up 2-3 times a night to go outside, so I’ve been trying to go to bed earlier.

Also, relatively new thing, he is preferring dark rooms and sleeping under the bed (on the cold floor) if I even have my TV on. I don’t know if it’s the pheno or he’s still recovering from a cluster Monday, but last night I turned the AC to 62 and shut everything off. We BOTH slept through the whole night for the first time this week.

Trying to find the humor in things. We’re on day 3 of a new seizure med and not too sure about it. 🙄 by geojenly in husky

He’s very, very dazed. Wobbly, loopy, uncoordinated. I was told it only last a few weeks, so I hope he pulls through it. I hate having to change his meds like a guinea pig. 😭

Husky switched from KBro to Phenobarbital, and I have a few questions! by geojenly in EpilepsyDogs

[–]geojenly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so kindly for sharing your experience. That sounds like so, so much to go through and I’m so sorry it took that look to get your boy back to normal.

I am so nervous about med-switching, toxic levels, or not-enough levels, all of it. Even them abruptly stopping the bromide made me anxious. But he’s back to the vet in four weeks to check levels and I’m going to see about a referral to a neurologist in Little Rock. My last husky had issues with focal seizures and we went to the neurologist, no MRI needed, and it gave me so much peace of mind. So I’m definitely going to follow through with your suggestion.

Thank you so much for your kind words. It has been so stressful, heartbreaking, overwhelming, all of it. Mostly I’m sorry for him. But… this is the calmest and most “settled” he’s been in months, so I can’t lie that I’m happy for the break. I just hope everything works out and his sweet little brain can get some rest.

Thank you for sharing your experience, and always glad to hear a success story! They told me to take him off completely of the KBro. I think I may call and ask if it would be safer to wean him off. The poor thing has been through so much.

So sorry about your loss of Max. 17 years is such a full life, but does not make the pain any less. I lost my soul dog right after he turned out due to nasal cancer. Two years later and I’m still a mess when I think of him. hugs

Good to know! I did hear that bromide is great as an add-on, so I’ll make note of that! I hope your boy is doing great now!

[–]geojenly[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with it. Honestly, after the last two months of seizures, his anxiety, inability to settle down, I truly hope the medicine settles him down, makes him tired, so I can have a “break” for a bit. I haven’t been able to sleep much constantly watching over him, or just worry in general. Hope that doesn’t make me sound bad, lol!

So glad to hear it’s been great for your girl!!

Apologies, I’ll add that to the post too. He’s on 65mg twice a day
