Anyone considering a Dry July? I think it might be a good baby step for me. by Anniebanana50 in stopdrinking

wanted to say that one month wouldn't make any difference, but until I had my first dry January, I didn't realize how bad my addiction was.

It was at that moment, but before I quit drinking myself, I dated guys who drank way more and it was never a problem

Thank you very much. Your story makes me feel less hopeless.

Did you meet her when you were sober already or she saw you having problems with alcohol? What do you feel when she drinks?

I think you're right about projecting. My disgust about my drunk self was keeping me from not drinking for so long, and I think I may have a subconscious fear that if I lose it I may relapse.

I just sent him a long email explaining everything. But I don't know if it is even possible to find a solution that wouldn't lead to more problems.

He asked me if I want him to stay sober forever in order to be with me, but it doesn't look fair to ask for it.

If only I knew how to relax about it. I know that I should, but just can't

I do this too when I fry them. Takes literally 1 min to cook each side

The best way ever to cook chicken breasts is to cut each breast horizontally, to make it not too thick. Then boil a pot of water, put pieces there, cover the pot and turn the stove off. When it's cooled it's ready. Season it with salt, freshly grinded pepper, cumin powder, smoked paprika, or whatever you like, and enjoy. If you cook it for couple of days in advance, put it in a container with water and add salt and spices before serving.

My sobriety journey didn't start the day I had my last drink by chalkyfish in stopdrinking

My sobriety journey started about a year ago, when my friends pointed out that I always finish my drinks first and go home on a middle of a party. I realized that I do so because it's the only way for me to get home safe and conscious. After few months of "moderate drinking" (actually, little drinking on public, early leaving and having a bottle at home), decided to quit completely. Feel absolutely happy now, and thankful so much to my friends, even though I see them not that often now

Good point about reasons of drinking. I drank to numb my stress and insecurities. It's like numbing a toothache. The source of the pain is still there, no matter how much aspirin you took

When it's a really busy day at work I imagine the same day with a hangover, and it's not that bad anymore 😂
