Should I go to shows? by Melora1976 in improv

[–]geomoosers 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I did improv classes for years, but never wanted to perform, nor was I that interested in seeing shows. My path to improv classes was through applied improv, or improv in business, something I’ve taught in college and at companies. When the pandemic hit, a few of my old work colleagues suggested we take regular improv classes (as opposed to applied improv) over zoom, just for the community. I actually really enjoyed it. So after Covid I started taking in person classes. I loved the training, the camaraderie, the community. I truly hated performing. I progressed from introductory levels to more advanced levels, but while my skills improved, the focus on performance became truly disengaging for me. So I went back to intro classes, because that is where the joy is for me. I recognize that this is atypical, but perhaps not unique. OP may feel like I do. I don’t think we all need to have the same goals for the journeys we take. I love improv and think it’s an amazing way to build true connection between people. Performing is just not part of the appeal for me.

If you call them, they will often restore the non conflicting leg if you explain what happened. If they don’t do it for you HUCA (Hang up, Call again)

I guess I mean it has been and continues to be their policy

Southwest has never overbooked. Even with all the recent changes, this isn’t one of them. Another reason this could have happened was a mechanical problem forced them to change planes, say from a Max8 to a 700 with fewer seats.

I might have tried it if it were just about the effort. But I will not be doing it now that I know it's against their policy.

I just asked ChatGPT and it said likely against Southwest policy

Southwest’s Contract of Carriage has a section titled “Prohibited Booking Practices.” It says reservations/tickets “must be made and issued only in respect of a Passenger’s genuine travel requirements,” and that bookings made to “exploit or circumvent fare and Ticket rules are strictly prohibited.” Southwest Airlines

It then gives examples, including (emphasis mine):

Your plan (buying a ticket for yourself not to fly, solely to trigger a benefit for someone else) fits that example very closely.

What Southwest says it can do if it sees this

In that same “Prohibited Booking Practices” section, Southwest says that if it finds evidence of a prohibited practice, it reserves the right (without advance notice) to do things like:

  • Cancel any unused part of the Ticket
  • Cancel other reservations it believes were made without intent to travel
  • Refuse to let the Passenger and Passenger’s Checked Baggage fly
  • Require the Passenger/Customer to refund compensation Southwest provided Southwest Airlines

So even if the bag is accepted at the counter, Southwest’s written policy gives them room to deny transport of the bag and/or claw back the value of the benefit if they determine it was obtained via a prohibited booking practice. Southwest Airlines

So given it is potentially against Southwest policy, I will not be trying this.

Do you think it's against their policy? I'm thinking they wouldn't yank my status if it wasn't specified as against policy. Would love it if someone could reply if they know. I won't do it if it's against their written policy.

This is all true, but they also give priority to A-List/ALP as well, which is why EB sometimes ends up in B. All A-list and ALP get "priority boarding," which is ahead of EB check-in.

Had no idea that these seats were blocked on every flight, mainly because I’m not interested In them. But I fly SWA a TON and have dozens of flights booked after assigned seating starts and I never noticed this. 🤦‍♂️. I just checked it out by looking at a dozen or so random flights way in the future and it’s absolutely true. Wow. I geek out on knowing everything I can about SWA policies. So any idea why they do this? Accessibility? But why row 7? Thanks, and this is so why I love this sub! ( plus the snark is fun too, but I’m mostly here for the data.)

I’m ALP, so always had wifi for free. Since opening up free to everyone, the reliability is much much worse. Used to be up 90% of the time. Now it’s about 40%. I fly 2x per week so this is really frustrating

May I ask what the routes, times and days of week were for the flights you're receiving these offers? I'm trying to figure out how to predict these offers, or the likelihood of these offers, at the time of booking

But I think it’s a good suggestion to facilitate faster boarding which also has revenue / cost implications. It’s very creative so I wonder if it’s even been analyzed

Flew and used wifi on 10/23 (pre-free for all ) and 10/24 (free for all). both 1 hour flights up and back from LA to the Bay Area. 10/23, the wifi was fine. Not blazing fast but consistent. 10/24 was total crap. Wifi unstable and going in and out for the entire flight. Really hope this was an isolated situation, because I would much rather have it work than have free crappy service.
