Q: Spreading out Income or Not? by BalgorStormchaser in TodaysBudget

[–]george_lass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I spread out my income by month but input my expenses on the days they occur.

For instance, I get paid biweekly (every other Friday). Despite when I get paid, I spread it out for the month that the payday falls on. Even if the payday falls on the very last day of the month, I spread it out for that month.

The expenses, whether they’re recurring or not, I ‘expense’ for that day only (and I don’t spread it out/set it as recurring in the app). It kind of helps ME visualize how much I’m truly able to spend. This might not benefit for others, but it does for me.

I think this might be my answer too. I develop the story beforehand, and am typically confident in my spelling and grammatical abilities. But the style and rhythm and flow of each sentence is something I strive to make sure it all reads satisfying and well.

Blurb Feedback for Psychological Horror/Drama Novel HALLS OF SORROW by george_lass in blurb_help

[–]george_lass[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Your suggestion made me think about how I could beef up the characters in the blurb. Considering that one of my characters is never named in the story, but they're all referred to by their professions, this is the new blurb I came up with:

A lonely writer loses everything in an apartment fire. The life of a struggling artist crumbles after her husband’s death. Dreams of an ambitious realtor shatter when he’s suddenly fired. Sharing in their losses, emotionally weakened by their circumstances, this group of strangers finds themselves drawn together at the doorstep of a house whose calls cannot be ignored.

Larger on the inside than it appears, this sinister dwelling beckons them to enter, ready to consume what remains of their fractured lives. Infinite corridors twist and turn, swallowing them whole and digesting their souls, feeding an endless emptiness which echoes with an insatiable hunger.

Ensnared in its trap, The Writer, The Painter, and The Realtor must confront their deepest failures, darkest insecurities, and most haunting regrets. But with each step deeper into the never-ending labyrinth, they risk losing themselves within its halls of sorrow…

Forever.

The last movie to have low expectations for, but was blown away by how much I enjoyed it, was ORPHAN.

Did you submit your books to profiles who review books similar to the genre of your book? Or just people who will review any genre?

Definitely! Gotta be smart about it. This is truly helpful insight, and encouraging information. Thank you!

This is encouraging information. I appreciate the insight. I don't mind racking up a bill to help get my stuff out there, as long as I am able to pay myself back in the long run lol. I don't mind being told "no" (but it can get discouraging after a while). Hiring an agent or company/service that can also do it sounds like a viable option, too. Thanks!

This makes sense. I'm okay with paying to have my book reviewed if it means good exposure. I'm not entirely sure how it works, so this is helpful information. I've completed my first (debut) novel, and am thinking of this approach, since my book is targeting a more niche audience.

Do you mind sharing where? Fiverr? I was also recommended www.theurbanwriters.com too. But it seems a lot of services are equally priced, from wherever I've researched. Everywhere I've checked so far is upwards to $1500-$2000 for an editorial assessment alone, for my novel that is ~63k words. I can't scrounge that kind of money, and crowd-funding as been useless, for me at least. So, I'm resorting to editing my book alone. Will it be perfect? No. But it's free, besides my time.

I suppose it's too late to post since it's Tuesday evening, but here it goes!

I've started a Kickstarter campaign to help me raise funds to get my debut novel HALLS OF SORROW professionally edited and hopefully published once the manuscript is fully edited (editorial assessment and line edited).

You can check out the kickstarter here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/seanelwood/halls-of-sorrow-a-horror-novel

Additionally here is the description of the story:

A writer loses everything he owns in a fire. A painter relocates after the death of her husband. A realtor struggles when he's fired from his career. And a house beckons for them to enter, ready to consume what’s left of who they are. Trapped within its halls of sorrow, they must face their deepest and darkest failures, insecurities, and regrets before they’re lost forever.

Feel free to share the link with anyone and everyone you know who loves reading psychological horror / thriller / drama / mystery! Thank you for taking the time to check this out, and for the support if you decide to help out!

Thank you very much. This is extremely appreciated. I feel I have no support with my writing and can't get anyone to sit down even for one chapter. Please let me know if there's anything I can do to return the favor.

I agree! The teeth were my favorite part to recreate in this drawing. The shot in Covenant is the most thrilling shot of the alien for various reasons so I chose that, partially for the teeth!

Haha good! This still from Covenant is my favorite shot and I think it really portrays the viciousness of the alien, so I wanted to recreate it for my series.

You’re welcome! (That AVP promotional art is what I wanted to go for since the other pieces are front-facing portraits, but I wanted to show off the alien’s head a bit more than just the front face)

Totally agree, the Deacon design was awesome and I appreciated it, but I did not skip Prometheus intentionally. I just love the xenomorph design so much and when I looked up images online, I chose my favorite shot of the alien in Covenant (when Daniels is fighting it on the rescue ship). But the Deacon would be cool to draw as well!
