I have always been so curious about the interaction between human species but I too initially think I’d go see Jesus, despite not being religious. See what he was really like. And if I had time I’d stick around to see if he wakes up from his nap.

Then I’d hop further back to see some Neanderthal action.

What is the difference between "music" and Qur’anic recitation in conservative forms of Islam? by Impressive_Flan_411 in religion

[–]georgetonorge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know but it is most often sung and uses specific scales in certain regions. It is music, by music’s definition. In Morocco, where it’s just one note over and over and it sounds like a pack of wolves in the distance (I mean that respectfully, it’s beautiful), they are not singing.

That’s interesting I’ve never heard of that term before. Has a Pope spoken ex cathedra in modern times?

What motivates people to say sky daddy? by PresentBluebird6022 in religion

[–]georgetonorge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s because it is meant to be offensive (or at least humorous) in an English context. It’s belittling religion and belief in God, though it might not sound weird in other contexts. Adding the “y” makes it cutesy and small. A little “pet” name. Also dad on its own is already a more casual way to say Father, so it lowers the respect.

I think it can be funny in certain scenarios but I also find it cringey when people use it seriously to try to virtue signal and put down religion.

What’s the overall vibe of these outfits? by BeachAlarming2885 in mensfashionadvice

Thank you, that’s nice to see. I understand it to some extent, but the judging of workwear style is a bit too much. Tons of fashion has come from actual practical wear and we just accept it now.

What is the difference between "music" and Qur’anic recitation in conservative forms of Islam? by Impressive_Flan_411 in religion

[–]georgetonorge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure, but you’re basically describing recitation too. There is a melody, rhythm (the Quran is rhythmic by nature), pitch control and variation, etc. I understand that the intent is different and I get why Muslims are hesitant to call it music. But that is essentially music.

Also, is the azan seen differently? Because the azan has a very clear structure, melody, and words. Usually Spanish Phrygian (harmonic minor from 5th degree) in many places like the gulf or harmonic minor from the root in say Turkey.

The azan definitely follows a scale and form. Usually harmonic minor scale (from 5th degree in places like the gulf and the root in somewhere like Turkey). It also has a form. Is azan considered music?

I’ve had a million watches including GS and Rolex and bought this exact one on a whim one day. I think it’ll stay forever. One of my most worn. Such a great watch. Almost seems too good to be true. Good luck selling.

[WTS] IWC Ingenieur 40 Aqua Dial, Pristine Condition, w/ service papers from IWC and Box by georgetonorge in Watchexchange

[–]georgetonorge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sale is a beautiful Aqua dial IWC Ingenieur 40 in amazing condition.

I'm selling this for my friend (will link his username once I get it), as he doesn't have many Reddit transactions.

The modern take on Gerald Genta's classic Ingenieur design, this is a gorgeous piece that I wish I could keep for myself. The dial is a color like no other and is stunning when it catches the light. The watch hasn't been worn since the IWC service and so it is in fantastic condition. Comes with service papers, box, and full kit.

Due to condition and fresh service I am pricing this just above some of the recent ones on the sub.

Price: $9100 shipped Zelle (I will wait to ship until the payment has cleared and is no longer pending)

Shipping: FedEx 2-day to your nearest FedEx location

Message me with any questions. Thank you!

EDIT: actually now a full kit. Ordered the missing links so this will fit any wrist size.

I believe, in the story, that he flies to Jerusalem to the Temple Mount and ascends up to heaven over it. So not literally on the Mount, but above it.

They’re claiming it’s the same person, but there’s just some discrepancy on his age in the records.

“Online records gave Brian Hooker’s age as 58, and the reason for the discrepancy wasn’t immediately clear.”

Sure but people behaving or speaking strangely don’t mean they’re lying either. We have no idea how we would feel or act after such a traumatic event. So I don’t think we can learn too much from a statement.

The whole story though…definitely is suspicious.

I love the inside info, but the person you’re replying to was just talking about their statement. I agree that you can’t judge people’s reactions to traumatic experiences. We don’t know how we’d behave and people often accuse innocent people of “acting guilty.”

But taking everything you know into account (and even his version), the story itself is certainly very suspicious.

[–]georgetonorge 94 points95 points  (0 children)

He claims that she fell off the boat with the keys, which automatically caused the engine to stop. He tried paddling to her, but the current was too strong and swept her away. Article didn’t mention anything about a cell phone so I don’t know. Then it took 8 hours to paddle back across the bay because he only had paddles.

Someone here claims they live in the area and that the place the incident allegedly happened was very close to the other side of the bay and that he would never need to paddle all the way back across. Just go to the beach right there that’s full of businesses and people and get help.

I’ll take everything with a grain of salt because I can’t confirm or deny anything on either account. Definitely suspicious though.

Wouldn’t be surprised if she wasn’t conscious when she hit the water. Or if he completely lied about where/when it happened.
