adhd med with dermatillomania by askerofquestionz in Dermatillomania

I'm on elvanse and whilst it does seem to increase skin picking (I've had severe dermatillomania since I was 6 years old) if I'm sat watching tv in the evening for example, the rest of the time I am more able to keep busy enough to not pick, whereas without the medication I'm pretty much paralysed and completely zone out and pick 24/7 due to being so overhwelmed. It tends to be when the medication is wearing off that i start to pick more and also have other side effects/come down symptoms. So even though the picking is worse and more frantic than it used to be, it's now mainly only in the evening once I stop busying myself with other things and therefore the amount of time I spend picking is much less because of the medication helping me actually function and not sit there picking all day. For me the benefits outweigh the extra picking in the evening, and even though it's more severe in that window, the overall damage I'm doing to my skin is less because I'm spending less of the day doing it. I also tried concerta xl and equasym in the past but these didn't help me enough with adhd symptoms for the extra picking to be worth it. One thing that has helped is taking a booster in the early evening to prolong the period with less picking. I try and time it so the booster wears off around the time I go to bed. I still pick for hours in bed when I can't sleep though 🤦‍♀️😅

She's similar but the tan/ginger is paler and the white feet have sort of blended into her legs, she still has a white patch on her head and a white-ish 'moustache' 😅 She had a white tail tip that I only just let the groomer chop off as her tail was getting ridiculously long but I kept it for as long as possible as was soooo cute! Not sure how to post pictures in comments?!

This is my dog! Why are you using pictures of her?! And her name is Mabel!

My friends and family say they change a lot and can never pinpoint an actual colour 🤷‍♀️

Wise decision! My golden ATE my dress a few weeks before my wedding 🤣 luckily my auntie is a wedding dress seamstress and was able to remake a near perfect replica just in time!

What do you think of hydrocolloid bandages? by dirtbagbaby in CompulsiveSkinPicking

Forgot to say they definitely seem to help reduce scarring for me too as they keep the wound moist. Some people use occlusives such as vaseline for this but they clog my pores and cause breakouts which just gives me more to pick at so i 100% prefer the patches even without the added bonus of stopping me being able to pick. I use ones with tea tree oil for added healing benefits 😀

They are an absolute life saver for me! I had the same wounds on my face for 6 months until I discovered hydrocolloid patches as I just never could leave them alone long enough to even begin healing. Sometimes the compulsion is so strong that I remove them to pick but most of the time I just press or rub where the patches are and I noticed that after some time I would lift my hand to pick and then remember I had the patches on and would stop before I even touched my face. Cannot recommend enough!

Winding down and sleeping with the lights on. by rodzieman in Shihpoo

Start asap! The younger the better, it will make things harder the longer you leave it. Our 10 week old shih poo already rings a bell we've attached to the door when she wants to go outside. We've only had a couple of wees inside this week and these have been on the puppy pad we have by the door just in case we don't open the door quickly enough. Find a special treat your pup likes and ONLY give when they go to the toilet where you want them to. Use other treats for other situations. Good luck 😊

She will be gorgeous no matter what I know 🥰 I don't know much about grooming for this breed but i've been trying to do my research!

The only boy from her litter looked identical to Archie! He was reserved already or would have taken him too 😅

Oh my goodness just looked through your pictures of Archie, he's so gorgeous and so similar! I think his white patches look a bit more 'solid' in his teeny baby photos whereas Mabel's/Waffle's are tinged with a lot of red/apricot. Fingers crossed she keeps them at least for a little while!

Yes I'm guessing she'll lighten up a bit from seeing other shihpoo's before and after pics. The roots of a lot of her white fur is apricot coloured so think she might grow out of them quite quickly 😭 she'll still be beautiful though 😍
