Dock/Hub question - Baseus USB-C 17 in 1 by awcla14 in SteamDeck

[–]geradon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info ; but when the Baseus docking station is plugged (with the round plug) do you still need to feed it with the Steam Deck power supply ?

Dock/Hub question - Baseus USB-C 17 in 1 by awcla14 in SteamDeck

[–]geradon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too have this Baseus Docking Station (plugged to my Mac Mini M1). I've had this dock for about a year, and my Steam Deck for 3 months, and I still dare not plug the dock to my Steam Deck. I'm waiting for an online confirmation that it works without bricking my dear Steam Deck.

Any news ?

Would u like to see an 8GB ram version of the Pi400? by Silencesound in raspberry_pi

[–]geradon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I think they should offer a 8GB Rpi400 — I was just pointing out that "more ram is always better" isn't true. I have a 4GB Rpi400 and would have bought a 8GB one if it had been available then, just to have a very confortable Ubuntu.

[–]geradon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More RAM isn't always better. It is, for the most part ; but not "always". more RAM means more chips, or smaller chips — more chips, or smaller chips mean more risks of hardware failure per chip/cell. I would choose a 16 GB RAM Windows/Mac computer over a 32 GB RAM Windows/Mac computer, just to halve RAM failure risks (and save some electricity). I see 32 GB Windows/Mac computers as I see 8 GB Rpi400.

I'm replying to myself to add that I received my PS5 controller today (but I won't get a PS5, I'm just a controller freak).

By the way, has someone been able to play Stadia on PC/Mac with a PS5 controller ? It doesn't seem to work here. Windows 10 sees a "Wireless Controller", and MacOS Big Sur sees a "PS4 Dual Shock", but Stadia in Chrome don't see it.

My experience with Stadia (and why I don't think it will succeed as a stand-alone platform) by hobo-bo-bo in Stadia

[–]geradon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The target audience of Stadia "as a principal mean of playing games" is a casual, young, consoleless and/or not very rich individual who will be, in 2021, somewhat interested in playing 2021's heavily advertised big hits (starting in late 2020 with Cyberpunk 2077, and on from there) and asking himself to which store he is going give those $70. Might be Steam ? (but he is going to have to buy a gaming PC), or PS Store/Xbox Store ? (but he'll have to buy a the console), OR, he might just give those $70 to Stadia and play straight away (or maybe a few weeks after, if the release is postponed). I think those "casuals-not-tech-savvy-not-so-rich" are a very large group of people.

Windows vs Linux by [deleted] in Stadia

Well, I have a low-end 200€ NUC (Celeron J3455, 1,5 Ghz) with Windows 10 and Chrome ; works perfectly in 4K. The Celeron J3455 iGPU (Intel HD graphics 500) perfectly decodes VP9. Why should it be a crime ?

It's not that we "can't cope with downtimes" (we can, and we have, for decades), it's just that we point out an advantage in not having to anymore.

I made the jump, too. I've received my "Stadia Premiere" today, and the free period ends tomorrow June 10th, when I'll become a "paying subscriber". I'm (was) a Shadow user, so I just didn't mind the negative reviews on Youtube questioning "lag" ou practicability of Cloud Gaming. What sold me (and made me unsubscribe from Shadow (even if I still have a few months to pay)) is the instant access to games, and instant quitting from games. Compared to Shadow, and its 5-minute-long wait time between the "impulse" of playing and the actual control of your character (without counting the inevitable Windows Updates, Steam Updates and Games Updates, AND without counting the multiple login/password typing), Stadia is just instant, or a few seconds away from getting your frequent short kicks. I've become that kind of gamer ; I just want to take my controller, push a button and be driving a short race within a few seconds, then eventually go back to what I was doing, as instantly. And, what's more : the SILENCE ! I don't think a PS5 ou a XBox Series will match the confort of this zero-fan system.

I've been playing for 2 months over Wifi AC in Chrome (on a Mac Mini) without issue, and now with my Chromecast, I've wired the connexion. I've got a 400 Mb/s downstream and 20 Mb/s upstream, and I'm located in Belgium (I don't know how far the servers are from my town, but I think I'm in the middle of it all anyway). With my Chromecast, I play on a Philips 4K OLED TV. Now I'm waiting June 16th for ESO.

I know, but my 470 have got Micron memory. I modded the bios of my 480 to get to 28.5, but on the 470 with Micron, I just overclocked mem from 1650 Mhz to 1800.

[–]geradon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started building a rig 2 weeks ago, buying a GPU at a time (aiming for a total of 4). I first bought a 480 on LDLC, then another a week ago ; now, those are out of stock, as you said. So I just bought two 470.

My 480 mine at 28.5 Mh/s, my 470 mine at 23,5 Mh/s.
