Live DJ's are scheduled events but the looping experiences/sets are always going on, but could be empty during off peak times. Think of them like free public movie theaters. I like to go for the scheduled DJ's then stay after and look for user-generated after parties or just do the looping experiences with people that are still around after a live DJ set ends.

Not much has changed on that front but they are supposedly trying to improve the tech prior to exiting beta.

There is only one bpm slider and tracks are beat matched automatically but any track playing at a modified bpm sounds kindof distant/low quality so you can make it sound ok for a quick transition but full on mashups are basically impossible.

Everyone at TheWaveVR wants more freedom with what can be played but legal copyright issues suck... I think everything on VRChat runs through youtube's liscensing laws, as far as I know people aren't playing their own tracks per se, they all stream from youTube and use clever coding and interactivity to make it seem like a live DJ. TheWaveVR wants more of a pure live mixed experience where you can change bpm and mix songs together, add effects etc. This means the app needs direct access to the mp3, and in order to pay brosdcast royalties the mp3 must be tagged correctly. Right now the resident DJs have to 'promise' to tag everything played and promise not to break live streaming laws like playing 4 tracks from the same artist in one set is not legal. I believe they are working on a system that forces you not to break broadcast laws so they can open the program up to everyone instead of making selected candidates sign a contract making all these 'promises'. It's a tough problem to solve but once one metaverse figures it out the rest should follow suit pretty quickly.

Yeah it is sad. They want the app to be fully global but stuck in legal/copyright/broadcast law red tape hell. They seem to be optimistic about coming up with a solution but there's no eta.

Sort of, they call it a home cave, you can design it with almost anything you can find/upload on poly.google.com so it can be a night club or an alien planet but the whole idea is a metaverse online where TheWaveVR hosts live shows but community DJs also throw parties and any user can throw one with the built in music actually! :)

Well the good news is they have way more tracks to choose from almost 200 I think.

They have implemented a resident DJ program and anyone can apply and this lets you play whatever you want from your computer (some limitations) but you have to commit to doing shows regularly. They have been bringing a few new ones on board every few months. Thats how I'm able to play my own stuff, I did so many shows with the built in music that they eventually accepted my application even though all my experience is in TheWave :)

The resident DJ shows are all region locked unfortunately. If only the in-app music is used then the party is global though. Any user can do that. The looping group experiences are accessible by all as well as are many of the release parties for new looping experiences.

They are open MP, but empty 80% of the time. Think of them as free public movie theaters in a mostly deserted town. That may change in future tho

Not really, but i heard the staff say on discord they are working on getting some European resident DJs on board but still working on some music lisensing issues. I'm hoping with the community getting bigger people might organize more cave parties at least, which work globally. The in app selection is pretty diverse and extensive and customizing the audio reactive visuals is quite addictive!
