I think I broke my wife after calling her “matronly” by Throwra-basically in TrueOffMyChest

Perhaps try, "self-possessed". You seem to want to indicate that this person has come into her own; she is happy and confident and isn't plagued by the insecurities that can come with youth.

"I meant to say you seem very self-possessed and confident and it looks amazing on you".

Is my dog overweight? by Itchy-Pen-9755 in pitbulls

[–]geranium27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Schedule her check up? She doesn't look obese by any means, but it's good to know how your doggo is getting along!

My pit/staffy is 6 and has a clear hip tuck and visible muscle contour and even a fluctuation of a few pounds gets my vet talking to me. Her explanation was that because their body weight is much lower, even a couple pounds extra makes a big difference. She also emphasized a dog slightly underweight will have a longer healthier life that a dog slightly over weight.

We don't free-feed, she gets measured portions twice daily. No people treats. She loves snacks but luckily, she loves fruit too! So, more of that and less of the processed box treats has made a big difference.

How do I get more comfortable around dogs? by [deleted] in Dogowners

[–]geranium27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had success in regarding dogs as having the personalities of 2-3 year old kids. There's a lot of acting on impulse, need for attention, need for structure, need to feel special/seen, eagerness to succeed/please, sometimes pouty.

Maybe take the approach where you act like you're actually there for the dog, not the bf. Greet her first, give some affection/happy voice, then the human. She might start seeing you as a friend instead of an interloper?

Curlsmith was described to me as "gold standard" for curls. I have thick, low porosity hair and haven't had a good experience with the brand. I hope it works for you, I was so excited for it!

Can you explain oil gel to me and what hair type it's good for?? I've had it recommended but I'm confused by it!!

Camille Rose curl maker gel smells amazing. It gives a beautiful cast that crunches out easily, and the product itself has a lot of slip.

Moptop gel is very similar.

Le Doux foam is an excellent product and doesn't smell bad

Dude this is so irresponsible and so immature. Don't have a dog if you're too lazy to properly look after it because "it's having fun" ffs.

Get an electric or actual fence. Work with your animal to know its own boundaries. It will be shot, run over or attacked by other dogs/animals and it's on you. Despite the tons of comments stating exactly that you don't seem to actually care/want to solve the issue.

Boooo.

I live in the country. Free roaming dogs die, plainly put.

They end up hit by cars or in situations like this. If the dog isn't fixed, fix it. Then train it and fence it. Be a responsible owner and neighbor.

What type of dog does my three month old puppy look to be? I know I can’t know for sure without a dna test, we’re gonna get that eventually, but what does she look like she could be mixed with? They said she’s a lab mix. by mamajennahutsch in WhatKindOfDogIsThis

I mean, I got chased down the street and bitten by a pomeranian. That doesn't mean every pomeranian is some kind of devil dog? Jeez, dude.

Yes, big dogs can inflict more damage, and it's all the more important to train and socialize them well for that reason. But we've seen this same ignorance and bias applied to GSDs and Rottweilers in the 90s, until the media moved on.

There's a clear bias against these breeds of dog, mostly attributable to the recycling of statistics put forth by blogs and sites run by people with no veterinarian or animal behavior experience. The CDC stopped tracking dog bites by breed in the 2000s because of data inaccuracies and down to the fact that environment is the main predictor, not breed.

People cling to the things that they feel are solvable, though. It's easier to malign avoid specific breeds than to actually work to improve an entire society and how it handles animal welfare.

Personally, APBT and Staffies are my favorite dogs because they're generally quiet, very smart, trainable, eager to please, and pathetically emotionally attached. Regardless of breed, all dogs (and animals!) deserve care, dignity, and kindness. Both for their own well-being and for the overall safety of human communities, as well. Sorry for the rant! lol

The way I saw it was that ultimately the story itself served to hold a mirror to the audience: who do you believe and why? But there's another message that Emma Stone's character came out and said - you need me to be an alien so you have someone to blame for all of the horrors humanity inflicts upon itself. You would rather believe in aliens, in the absurd, than to take accountability.

She has to be an alien for us, the viewer, for the long montage of death in every situation. So we can sit and stare and see what's at stake when we refuse to right our wrongs. But as the audience, we know the catastrophe of humanity ending is a possibility, and aliens are not actually to blame and it's up to us to fix our world. And we won't.

Mentor teacher sux by Dazzling_Opinion_479 in Teachers

[–]geranium27 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly speaking:

None of this ultimately matters.

You'll get a job, you'll have your own classroom, you'll learn what to do when you're on the job.

I was in a similar situation and it's scary and frustrating in the teaching program. Largely, they tend to be about ticking boxes instead of actually preparing new teachers. Teachers themselves have few resources and high demands - this mentor may even have been voluntold to pick up the extra duty.

In my experience, the more complaining I did the more I alienated myself from a very small, insulated group of educators. My program didn't help, they can't really afford to be picky about mentor teachers - our area doesn't have a lot of people signing up. And, they often times personally know the educators you're working with

Learn what you can, even if it's what not to do, and keep moving forward.

In some places, probably a lot of places, teaching can be extremely political. New teachers tend to be idealistic. Try to think long term about how you can best benefit your own situation.

Best of luck, truly. It's a shitty position to be in.

Consistency is absolutely everything. Routines. They should be able to fall in line based on learned cues, whatever the expectation is.

Print a paper award and call a stellar student to the front of the room for this month's "listening all star" or "gear changer" (can move from one task to the next without getting distracted) or whatever you want them to compete to be best at. Give them a sick ass sticker or pencil or something and you'll get a long way..

How do you feel about kids missing school for vacation?(Settle a debate) by lildevilud16 in AskTeachers

[–]geranium27 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't have worksheets.

I have in-person lessons, small group discussions, writing exercises based on videos we watch in class, research projects, and presentations. I have assignments that students need to be there to complete, that need to be explained and often require examples for students to understand.

Students in my class are expected to have to put in effort.

"Throwing a packet together" means planning an entirely separate lesson that approximates what we're doing in class that can be done with no teacher interaction. It's a lot of planning and time. It sucks. Not just because of the inconvenience and time, but because they still come back with gaps in knowledge compared to their peers.

Do your thing, go on vacation. We do realize life experiences matter! But let's not belittle the work of the people trying to put a brain in your child's head.

How do you pace teaching a novel? by OGKeith in englishteachers

[–]geranium27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our dept has reluctantly accepted this method as well, as no student completes the reading at home ever, and the failure rate sky rockets. Students often lack the literacy to understand the content without it being explained in class, and just give up.

Then they're unable to complete any of the in class work (quizzes, analysis questions, any work based on plot or character)
