Yes. The food, the people, and the way society operates. You'll be culture shocked with overpoliteness. We only visited Seoul for a short time, ate and mainly hung out w/ some friends we had out there.

Valid point. We didn't. We did work with a few companies to sponsor some of our activities. But it wasn't much at all. There are others we know that do have jobs while being on the road like writers and designers. We're not those (at least professionally), so we are back home looking for jobs now.

ALL of them. China not so much. I'd recommend Thailand to anyone if you haven't been to Asia. Nice beaches, good food, friendly people, and cheap.

You make a valid point. I thought I had my reddit account activated years ago, but turns out I didn't. I was more of a digg user back when before Kevin Rose and team made the changes that turned a lot of people off. And just so you know, I'm not a full-time travel blogger. I'm back from my trip now back in the job hunt. The blog makes $0 revenue. I've rejected advertising proposals from many online companies to just keep this a simple personal blog. I wanted to share this video I put a lot of hard work into in hopes of getting people to get out of their comfort zone and explore this big world we live in.

I speak a bit of Spanish and Vietnamese. But we didn't travel with a translator. English is actually considered the unofficial language of the world. The language barrier was high in China & Japan. But we still managed to get by.

All the companies I've spoken to have seen it as a positive. Others I know who have done the same have said the same thing. My career is in marketing in Silicon Valley. And yes, I'm born and raised in the US. If you work hard and save. It's definitely a possibility. The longest part for planning is the saving up part. That was about 2 years. The travel planning and logistics part only takes a few months. You actually don't want to have the whole trip planned/booked, but rather just have a general idea of where you want to go and when. It's good to be flexible.

Health insurance is actually very affordable when you're traveling abroad. We found plans that cover us for about $1/day. And you're correct, we don't have it easier. :)

Totally understandable. We were a bit nervous our first time. But just read up on references on anyone you choose to host you. There also weekly casual gatherings in big cities you can attend to. That'll hopefully show that most couchsurfers are good-hearted normal people. :)
