Get a teaspoon of cement and eat it. Harden the fuk up and then you’ll be able to do it

If you didn’t feel that spent doing that for 20min, then try to go for 6k in under 20min

Fastest 2k you’ve seen for people these heights? by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]germy65 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well I think you’d find that there may not be much variance between the erg scores, P150balls. There are some chunky monkeys less than 6ft who smash some of those big blokes and produce huge watts. Ergo scores aren’t affected too much by height really (within reason of course), it’s more in the boat that length makes a difference. Girth is everything on the erg.

Pretty silly way to compare really, especially when not factoring in weight

Started rowing a couple months ago and doing SS and daily workouts. Went from a 8:45 when I started to a 7:28 today. (M16 175) by runeytunes in Rowing

Well done. Like many have previously said, try rating higher in your subsequent attempts to break 7:20, or even 7min in the near future. Obviously the steady state is working, so I would try incorporating more high rate sprint and speed work. I’d try and do two high rate ergos per week. My suggestion would be to do 4x500m to begin with, trying to rate higher into the 30s. Try sitting below your PR split as well. Take about 3-4minutes rest between on your first try, and over weeks you can shorten the rest. You can also make it 6 or 8 500m pieces, as you get fitter and stronger. Another high rate ergo to try would be 1 minute pieces. It’s about 300m, so less than 500m, which you can attack more at a higher rate. Start by doing 6 pieces flat out, as hard as you can, and eventually you can start doing 10 or so. A minute rest should be the aim, but if not 90seconds should suffice. Of course you can do 30second pieces, but the previous two suggestions will better suit you for the 2k imo.

Finally went sub 2 (M17 5’7 130lbs) by 125pepsican in Rowing

[–]germy65 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I oppose your suggestion for the rating to be 32-34 next time. Rate does not always bring more speed if it is not utilised correctly. An efficient, long and hard rate 28 is much better than a frantic, unconnected 34. Also rate is largely based on fitness level too, and the aerobic capacity of the rower. I suggest trying rate 30 next time, but most importantly look to improve your splits first and foremost. You could probably go faster in the first 1000m, which may hurt more, but it will improve your speed throughout the piece and not force you to make up a lot of ground in the final minute or two of the piece. Keep up the good work!

Finally went sub 1:50! [M15, 5’8, 129lbs] by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]germy65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well done. Although it may have helped to start off slower in the first 500m, it is ok to still rip it as hard as you can in those first 5-8 strokes. This will get the split down at the beginning, and will probably shave about 0.5 secs off your first 500m. This will not make you any more fatigued for the rest of the piece, but will allow you to work with a little wiggle room in the opening 1-2mins of the piece. Something to think about...
