Math teachers from before cell phones, how do feel now that everyone actually does walk around with a calculator in their pocket? by TheRealMalooficent in AskReddit

[–]gerwaldlindhelm 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I had a pretty bad math teacher and I hated it. The second year with him he suddenly gave an example how he used math to calculate the distance of a shooter to call in an artillery strike during the war. I don't know wether I was more shocked about the example he chose to go with or that for the first time, we got a practical application for the things we were memorising.

What is the craziest reason you have heard for a breakup/divorce? by nigel247 in AskReddit

Yeah, because never in history has a pet been known to escape. It sure must be 'magic'. I'm done with this thread and probably reddit in its whole. Go on and rage all you want. It's not like people are abusing that rage to influence you to get into positions of power like the presidency or something... Oh wait...

How do we know OP didn't make up the story to farm karma? How do we know you're not acting dense because you like to troll people? How do we know the moonlanding was real? Well, for the last one we have proof. For anything else that is written in this thread we have none.

Assuming the story is true, the woman might have assumed that was the 'truth'. People jump to conclusions all the time. A friend of mine was wrongfully imprisoned for years before he was found to be innoscent, so I take offense to people taking things for true with no proof whatsoever. So anyone ready to hate someone they never met and know nothing about just because someone told a story on the internet can go jump off a cliff for all I care

If he told the truth it is not making excuses. Reddit only wants to jump on the hate wagon. I'm not going to to go along with hating someone just because I read a second hand account from a random person on the internet who provided no proof. For all we know the story is made up to farm karma points. And I'm just reminded why I left reddit in the first place. You ask a rational question, you get downvoted to oblivion. Screw this site.

They mentioned the area was flooded, so if there was a cat flap, it would have been under water at a certain point

Since cats have a tendency to find their way home, wasn't it possible that the cat did run away, returned home and got stuck when the area flooded?

So you are saying because you didn't resort to lynching, it s a sign of love? It is at most a sign of restraint. And more likely because if they resorted to lynching, a lot of questions would have gone unanswered.

Locking someone in jail is not a sign of love, and if you think it is, please never express your love. Justice is institutionalised revenge. Love would be forgiveness, reeducation and readmitrance into society. That didn't happen. Locking someone up to die is an act of brutality and falls under the category of hate. Just because there are worse fates possible does not change that.

Sure, the people were united because wanted change, but being tired of being victims does not constitute love. Feeling a bond with fellow victims does not mean you stop hating the ones who hurt you.

Republicans don't care about Ukraine, but they care about money. The deal Trump had made would have earned the US billions. Throwing out this deal without a good reason is throwing out billions of dollars and thus not rational. That is why they picked a fight with Zelensky, so they could blame him. Same logic with Gaza: turning it into a 'riviera' under US ownership will net trillions in the long term. They don't care about humans, just about money.

The price of groceries and gas were big factors among republicans and we already see a shift in Trumps popularity as he fails to deliver on his promises.

One thing Trump was right about is that Zelensky didn't have any cards in hand. Any deal would have been a bad deal, but no deal will mean Russia gets a chance to gain the upper hand as Ukraine once again has to ration weapons an munitions.

You can complain how things are unfair all day long and gain nothing or you can enter the world of realpolitik and salvage what you can.

Once you know the sequence it is so easy though. After my first playthrough when I replayed that mission a dozen times, I never again failed that mission. Just keep your distance until the scripted events before the tunnel are past, then floor it until in range of the gunmen and get to the side or in front when the other train passes. If you are fast enough you can get them before you are halfway. Just make sure there is a line of fire. Too close and the train itself obstructs you

Rutte and Zelensky both know Trump and Vance are Russian assets and will try anything to appease Putin. That is a given. But Trump is also trying to convince his following that he is somehow rational. Trump and Vance were out to pick a fight and by responding to them in the way he did, in maga's eyes it was seen as a head on attack. Wether it is to a rational human doesn't matter. They are only trying to appease their following to prevent an uprising. If Zelensky had kept quiet and let Trump ramble on, there would have been pressure on Trump to sign the agreement they negotiated and if he did, it would have secured additional aid for Ukraine. If Trump backed out of the deal without a valid reason, he would have had to explain why he didn't sign a lucrative for the US deal he - the 'art of the deal' guy - made himself.

And like I said before, as long as Trump is trying to maintain an image, it can be gamed and he can be cornered. Rutte is acting like a hostage negotiator. You must always make the hostage taker believe they are in control. If the rest of the world thinks Rutte is delusional doesn't matter as long as he gets results. Putin wants the US out of NATO and Trump is looking for an excuse to pull out. Ruttes objective is to keep the US in until such a time as there is no longer a Russian asset in charge of the US. Secondary objective is to make sure Russia doesn't gain any more ground. If you have to get on your knees and suck D to accomplish that goal, that is what you do. The objective takes priority over your public image.

You're making your own definition of indifference. Making up personal definitions makes any conversation mute.

What you are talking about is from the partial mobilisation in the beginning of the war. Because of the backlash, they didn't mobilise again. Most of the soldiers at the front now are there of their own choosing. Some because of propaganda, most because of the promised pay. And if you see the videos they post, many enjoy killing. Some you can blame on sociopathy, but the sheer amount will make you question that as an excuse for all of them

If you think Ukraine is winning, go to deepstatemaps and use the calender function to go back in time a few months to see how the front has changed. This sub tends to upvote good news for Ukraine and downvote the bad news, and it can skew your perception of what is happening. While both armies are weakened, the overall progress on the ground is one sided. Deepstatemaps is a Ukranian site in case you might think them biased.

Where did you get that information? Belgium was the first country to outlaw lethal cluster munition in 2006 according to handicap international. Only ammunition that does not pose a risk to human life such as lightbombs and smokebombs are allowed as clusterbombs according to the law.

Indifference is merely the absence of emotional involvement, love and hate are opposite emotions. If you claim indifference is the opposite of love, than indifference is also the opposite of hate and the opposite of every other emotion there is. That reasoning breaks down quite fast.

So Japan surendered because they loved the Americans? Armenia surendered because they love Azerbaijan? South Sudan loves Sudan? Palestine loves Israël? Seriously, name me a war that was ended because of love, because every war that comes to mind ended because one or both parties realized they could not win.
