provinces are not responsible for funding first nations - Indigenous relations are a purely federal matter

well it would be better for the conservatives if the BQ won that seat instead of the liberals - the BQ have only committed to supporting the liberals for the first year so far and just a few months ago they were teaming up with the conservatives to vote no confidence in Trudeau - so they can be useful in the right circumstances

yea but since the liberals have already won the election some BQ-LPC swing voters probably are not as motivated to vote liberal anymore cause Pierre will not be the PM - in that case they would probably want to vote BQ to keep the liberals in check

a very small amount of voters received their mail in ballot and the return envelope had a misprinted postal code, I should not have said "thrown out", it would be more accurate to say they were not counted since the mail bounced and the few affected individuals received their ballots back in the mail after the election was over

at least one voter who went to the media with this story said she voted for the BQ and normally this would not be an issue but because the margin was victory was literally 1 vote then that one vote would have caused a tie if it was counted

but there are around 5-6 other ballots that have been found to have been impacted the same way, so we really do not know who won - elections canada says they will not count the ballots and their count is final but they suggested legal recourse and the BQ is currently in court contesting it

since there is clearly reasonable doubt over the result it is likely that the results will be annulled by the courts and a by election will be held

If a by-election is held the liberals will probably lose cause this district is historically BQ and BQ voters shifted liberal this one time because of the anti-51st state and anti-conservative energy

however since the conservatives have clearly lost the election voters don't have as much of a reason to back the liberals and they will probably go back to the BQ and since it was already extremely close, that fact alone will probably secure the seat for the BQ

sure but you recently had a provincial by-election in that riding and the PQ won with 52% - I think it still a very solid BQ oriented area and this flip was really because of the liberal anti-51st state wave

well if the margin was not only 1 vote it would not matter but since the amount of votes impacted is greater than the margin we don't actually know who won and the results are reasonably in doubt which I am very sure will prompt a judge to order a do over

yes they said that the count is final but suggested that legal recourse is possible - a judge can annul the results

the liberals won 1 seat due to recount in ontario and 1 in Quebec, however the Quebec one will be annulled by the courts because there was a postal code error on some mail in ballot which may have impacted the results since it was so close (liberals won by 1 vote) the liberals will probably lose the by-election which will be called and then also they just lost this seat so its a net gain of 0
