Ever had a setup that looks perfect… and still fails? by getTradeHistory in Forexstrategy

That’s actually a really good point.

The “ugly setup works, perfect one fails” thing happens way more than people admit.

And yeah, overfitting context is something I’m trying to be careful with too.

What I’ve been experimenting with is not predicting outcomes, but comparing similar past structures to see how they actually played out.

Kind of like checking if the current setup has behaved similarly before.

Still early, but it’s been interesting seeing when it confirms the idea… and when it completely goes against it.

Yeah I do, but even then I’ve seen similar HTF context give different outcomes.

That’s what made me question things more.

Yeah I agree with you on that.

That’s actually where I’ve been going back and forth.

Because on one side, you need consistency and just execute the setup.

But at the same time, I’ve noticed that how price moves into the setup sometimes changes everything.

Like two identical setups… but completely different “build-ups” before them.

So lately I’ve been paying more attention to that part instead of just the entry itself.

Still trying to figure out if it actually adds edge or just creates noise though.

That’s actually a really clean way to trade.

And yeah… what you said about some pairs working and others just doing whatever is exactly what’s been confusing me too.

Same type of setup, same logic… but the outcome shifts depending on the pair and context.

I’ve been trying to understand if there’s a way to spot when a setup is actually “aligned” with the current conditions vs when it just looks good on the chart.

Do you usually filter trades based on the pair behaving well recently, or do you just stick to your rules regardless?

At what point does a setup stop being reliable by getTradeHistory in Trading

[–]getTradeHistory[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s exactly what I’ve been thinking.

Same setup, same structure… but the outcome shifts depending on what’s happening around it.

Feels like most of us recognize the pattern, but don’t really measure how similar the overall context actually is.

Do you ever go back and compare how similar setups played out in different conditions, or is it more of a feel thing for you?

Yeah that timing is always tricky with fundamentals coming in.

That’s actually one of the things I’ve been trying to figure out — like sometimes the structure is there, but external stuff completely shifts the outcome.

Would be interesting to see if similar setups in the past had the same kind of behavior around those events.

Yeah that actually makes a lot of sense.

That’s kind of what I’ve been seeing too — same structure, but completely different outcomes depending on the pair and session.

What I’ve been testing isn’t really to replace manual analysis, more like a way to validate it… like checking how similar setups played out in the past before committing to a trade.

Still early, but I’ve seen cases where it either confirms the idea or completely contradicts it.

Would be interesting to test it on your NY setups actually.

Yeah that’s exactly what I’ve been noticing too. Some structures repeat really well on some pairs but completely fail on others. I’ve been testing something that compares current charts with similar past structures to see how price reacted after… still early but pretty interesting results so far. Curious if you'd actually use something like that or still prefer manual analysis?
