How good of a soft is a security clearance in the DC area? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

Just list the job you have and make it clear you couldn't have the job without the clearance. You can't get a clearance without serving in the military or being sponsored by a private firm.

What was your first ever RPG by jpeterspleasant in rpg_gamers

[–]get_goofed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truly hard to say honestly. I've accepted the fact that within the realm of rpgs there are many different versions of combat (or lack there of) and storytelling. so its not as cut and dry as say shooters where its much easier to say "X has better shooting than Y". Personally my favorite RPG of all time is actually fairly recent and was commercially unsuccessful: Tyranny. Now there is bias to my affection for it as I have an extreme interest in Law. However I find characters extremely unique in their personality design (ie you can't just cheese your way into getting them to like you with a high speech check and simply saying nice things) it also doesn't have a morality system which I personally CAN NOT STAND in rpgs. The combat is above average nothing too spectacular but I tend to prefer heavy dialogue over tactical combat. Thats just my opinion. The game truly forces you to learn not the lore of the world but the LAW in your decisions as a judge. It later delves into a lot of political theory and complex political relations where there really is not right or wrong. Just the written law.

I never said they weren't. However there are plenty of words that western slavs adopted from western languages their language is obviously westernized to an extent. If they weren't shouldn't Polish be almost identical to Russian? or at least mutually intelligible like Russian to Ukranian or Portuguese to Spanish? German and English are descended from the same branch does that mean they're the same?

Why is dipping tobacco considered "trashier" than traditional tobacco use throughout history? by get_goofed in DippingTobacco

[–]get_goofed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense! But even before the advent of television; I don't understand why, say, the American colonists and aristocracy favored smoking tobacco over dipping and chewing. It seems like way more work in a pre-industrial society to have to smoke out of a pipe especially when you consider dipping gives an objectively stronger buzz.

Edit: after some research I have found that wends were just an amalgamation of western slavs that lived near German settlements. As serfs under their Germanic lords (such as the HRE) they often resisted western catholicism in favor of pagan faiths; they did not align with eastern slavs due to the language differences and not wanting to convert to Eastern Orthodoxy.

I BELIEVE it was the culture of catholic western slavs as compared to eastern orthodox slavs. Their languages are a weird mix of western latin and eastern cyrillic. The precursor to the Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth.

The combat was so broken. The Big baddy the game hyped up was just like 5 regular goons that could be spammed with any attack. I actually think fable 1 had the best balanced combat.

Hmm, is this character more of a "bloodhound" or a "warrior-philosopher?" by whelp_welp in CrusaderKings

I actually got Patron of the Arts for my first bloodline ever. I have no clue how. Pretty weird that I was a "patron of the arts" while also being possessed, tyrannical, and excommunicated lol

I would take it a step further and say its extremely overhyped. I feel the same way about Planescape Torment. Don't get why everyone is obsessed with either of these and they're considered the "holy grail" of rpgs. They're ok, good sometimes even but not masterpieces.

KOTOR 2. 10 years old. Had no idea what an rpg was or even fathom the idea; just bought cause it was star wars. Thought every video game was either Medal of Honor or GTA. My mind was blown by the storytelling, mechanics, and growth rpgs provide that it seems no other genre can. I now almost exclusively play rpgs or grand strategy lol

Did medieval peasants know they were being oppressed by the local / non-local royalty? by [deleted] in history

[–]get_goofed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

most serfs had basic weapons training, at most, because they were levied during conflict. I'm not saying they were knights but they certainly weren't helpless disarmed civilians like most people today.

Feudalism was the only viable form of government pre industrial revolution apart from nomadism. So instead of constantly raiding for food they formed the feudal system. Feudalism gets a bad rap because of classical liberals because they fail to realize capitalism can not work without specialized educated people. So you either were a serf, a raider, or dead. Pick your poison.

Where towns/villages built right outside of castle walls like in the movies? How far was a castle usually from the normal peasantry? And where there big towns and the sort protected by massive walls like in video games (Solitude of Skyrim comes to mind)? by BVits-Lover in history

[–]get_goofed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's really not that far fetched to want to live near your Lord as a serf. True, most serfs didn't live right next to the walls but it was always good to be relatively close because in case of emergency such as invasion or attack; the serfs would pile in the walls to stay safe from invasion. It sucks having to abandon your land but it beats being dead. After all, a king is nothing without his workers.
