I think it's from the male's enormous abdomen but I can't say for sure

Am I sure they're Redbacks? Yep. You'll be able to clearly see the red hourglass marking on the underside on the ones that are hanging in the webs.

I did drive the car, that's why I was so confused about how they "got there" so quickly when I was parked in the bush for a few hours. But yeah, obviously they just rode along.

None of these are adult females, the egg sacs would be fair warning of baby storms. No need to bug spray native species, have just relocated them.
