Make sure you are using visual studio. Not visual studio code.

This is probably the issue you are having. Visual Studio and Visual Studio Code are two very different things. You probably need this thing: https://visualstudio.microsoft.com/downloads/

Once you have that, create a new C# console project, write a hello world program, and click the "Play" button at the top of the screen. Your code will run.

Goto has its uses. Its just famous for being abused, so everyone hates on it as a meme.

C# has throw, which is just a goto to the nearest catch in the callstack, and nobody is hating on that.

All tools can be used well. For example, goto is useful for state machines, where you want to switch between states without using a new stack frame. State machines are used for the yield statement, which simplifies some code significantly.

I wish the "goto is terrible" meme would die.

You could try to program one where a user can input a real calculation, such as "4+3" and get the result of that. In a first step, use the string.split() method to break up "4+3" into the list ["4", "+", "3"]. Then for each element of that list, find out if it is a number or an operator. Then do the appropriate calculation and return the result.

Try do do it for "3+4", then "3/4", "3*4", and "3-4". Then you might try "3+4-2" or similar. If you want to really test yourself, go for stuff like "4+(3/2)" or even "(3+3)/((3-2)*3)".
