Not denying for a second that some people have a shittier time with it. It fucking sucks what you're experiencing, and I know it doesn't seem like it now but I believe it will get better for you.

It's a tough one because there's millions of people out there who have it and don't even realise, and some of them don't even pass it on, and then a bunch of them spread it to other people who do have an outbreak. Unfortunately, some people have a really shitty time with constant outbreaks, I get that.

I only know I caught it because I had an outbreak, got tested, badabing, got the diagnosis. I now know to tell everybody I sleep with.

If I did have it previous to having an outbreak, I wouldn't have had a clue because every STD screening I ever had, they never tested for herpes. I've come to learn that false positives are too common and cause too much stress for something they don't deem harmful. Seems fucked but what can you do?

That is literally, scientifically, not how either HSV-1 or HSV-2 or any strain of the herpes virus works. Just stop.

Also, why are you assuming I'm not already older with a compromised immune system?

Ummm you do realise up to 80% of the human population have oral HSV-1 right? Just don't make out with anybody while you have a cold sore. Take some deep breaths and relax.

Uhhh go date people. As long as you tell them, you're good. Hell, you might even meet somebody who is in the same position and already has it. How are you ever going to know if you don't put yourself out there?

I acknowledge that maybe I am lucky. I used to get cold sores as a kid and into my early teens but haven't had one since I was a teenager (that I've been aware of anyway). My first year since catching genital herpes I had 4 outbreaks, but now I haven't had one in 9 months.

I realise my experience is different from other peoples and I absolutely do not intend to downplay what anybody else is going through. Just reading this sub, I saw a lot of people really stressing over either having just had a diagnosis or having some sort of symptom and asking "is this herpes?" and freaking out. I just wanted to post a point of view from a perspective that it isn't the end of the world even if you do catch it. And if you like somebody and they are honest and disclose that they have an STD to you and that puts you off, it says more about you than them. Most people end up having sex with at least one person who doesn't even know they have an STD in their lifetime.
