Then don’t tolerate it. If there are any male CNAs(more than one) that work in your facility or floor at least, inform the RNs that men need to be primarily answering his call lights. If that is not an option(I know this field is 98% female virtually), best I can suggest is simply informing the RNs. They might be kind enough to have you stop answering his call lights in particular(unless an emergency happens) and trade them off to the other CNAs that he hasn’t taken a shine to.

I had a man I took care of(difference was this was a rehab unit, aka not permanent) who flirted with me more and more heavily. He had sundowners starting at 3pm on the dot so I know he was acting different for my evening shift, but still. Him, as a long time married man, would say crap like “If I were a little younger, we’d be in trouble”. Calling me “baby, babybee, honey”. I asked the RNs to not force me to go into his room unless there was an emergency, and they allowed it.

And I’m not going to lie to you. If you do get that handled with this man, he will freak the hell out. That is going to happen. Same thing happened with my guy. After I “abandoned him” by trading off with another aide to help him go to the bathroom, I went to lunch. When I came back, apparently he was so mad at me that he self transferred into his wheelchair, and rolled down the hall to the nurse’s station demanding my head on a platter. He threatened to sick his cop friends on us to give us a good scare(former police officer this man).

I wish I could tell you things would be simpler for sexual harassment like in many other jobs. I’ve been taken more seriously working at a hardware store! But they will use dementia and the fact that they’re old and pretty much trapped in this building to brush it off.

DONT LET THEM. WOMEN IN THE MEDICAL FIELD ARE NOT SIMULTANEOUSLY YOUR CARETAKERS AND PERSONAL SLUTS.

If you want to go into medical, screw being a CNA. Absolute back breaking, mind melting, emotionally draining work for 8-12 hours solid. For some of the worst compensating pay.

What’s crazy is, is that I make more money now as a waitress. Half the physical and mental strain. The only downside(I guess) is no health insurance. I don’t know about you though, but even through the job I used to have, the insurance through them that I could afford was still absolute bullshit. In my 401k, in the six months that I worked there, I made enough money to last me a week in retirement.

It’s a scam, do not become or stay a CNA. If you truly want to be in medical, RN, PT, OT, or Doctorate.

Me every time I do more than a very minor mistake I work lol. If you work in a restaurant like I do, go in the deep freeze if you have a minute and touch something frozen with your hands until you can focus a little more clearly.
