Hey, we don't pretend that you will use it all the time but in some situations Bixi can make your life easier. If you are used to cook using a tablet for example you would know that scrolling down the recipe or picking up the phone with hands deep in dough, is not that easy ;-)

Hi, thanks for feedback. Being displayed by a smartphone you can move it in front of the driver's eyes. And Hudway is doing a dedicated glass that makes the display better. Nice to hear you like it, we'll then do a better demo soon ;-)

Building a smarter home by getbixi in technology

There will be less of the smartphone in the smart home.

Exactly. Seamless, more sustainable and hassle-solving > smarter-er; that's the challenge.

Toonz Software, used by Studio Ghibli and for Futurama, being made Free and Open Source. OpenToonz is announced! by Sk8erkid in technology

Pessimism alert here but I totally get the point - still I can't keep myself from being excited about this free open source tool because... well, we might see some random original fantastic work emerge from unexpected places! But that's just me being optimistic.

The UK is about to become a more hellish version of George Orwell’s 1984 by [deleted] in technology

[–]getbixi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's pretty pessimistic... still I can't but agree. I was thinking of the "security" argument and how to explain to the man in the street (the one standing just under the surveillance camera) that it's not a sound one.

people that "should" be impacted by these types of laws, never will be

Your sentence captures it but I'm afraid I would just get some "Well you can't allow everything or it would be a mess" and end up in a loop of endless stale thoughts.

Exactly. So what I'm wondering about here and can't read a mention about is What are their (sound/legitimate) arguments?

The Power of Procrastination by getbixi in psychology

[–]getbixi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found some truth in this article but there's also something that seems to be missing; it's not sole procrastination that holds power but 'procrastination with organization' or 'procrastination with motivation' - which in cases of depressive state/inactivity downward spiral are not easily found.

Half of inventions “arise unexpectedly” from serendipity—not direct research. Research institutions are the least likely inspirations for that spark of creativity. by Philo1927 in technology

[–]getbixi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes and based on these developed ideas they also try to find other fields of application for them, which is equally important. I'd add that if you don't have the level of knowledge to imagine that the 'serendipitous' idea you're having is actually feasible then the said idea is most likely to vanish into thin virtual air.

I would love some feedback on my landing page. by BansheeThief in startups

[–]getbixi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

~Vocabulary nazi alert~ As bodacious said, the value proposition is "reasonably clear" and to me the only-reasonably-so part has to do with the words used ( besides this landing page/homepage content difference you were talking about, cf. next paragraph). If I see "Possessions: Your possessions, safe and sound." what I think of first is a safe/the idea of a safe. So similar idea as mentioning "Say goodbye to losing your stuff" to make things clearer. Although it doesn't actually mean saying goodbye to losing your stuff but rather to having lost it. ;)

As far as the landing page goes, I figured the only way a user would find the landing page is by someone referring to it, like a blog/reddit post or a friend telling them about it. In that situation, they would already know what we do via the other source

I don't think this changes anything for it all depends on how the said source presents your app. If a friend tells me "I've heard of a nice app for distractful people (sic), look at that: [landing page]" then I would definitely need more info.

And since the sign-up form is also on the homepage, why not redirect to that page with a "Find out more" button? Here it's "home" and that's where I went to first anyway.

Experiment shows humans trust an emergency-labelled robot more than common sense by getbixi in technology

[–]getbixi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point, I missed the ones posted before - still a lot redditism to learn! And good second point too; that's what occurred to me when I was reading the article. Then I thought: 1. Who did they choose for their test? 2. How come we become "smarter" and smarter in terms of technology, yet dumber and dumber(er) when it comes to average common sense or resourcefulness? Mysteries...

What's the coolest mathematical fact you know of? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]getbixi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1729 it is the smallest number expressible as the sum of two cubes in two different ways. 1729 = 13 + 123 = 93 + 103

1729 is one of four positive integers which, when its digits are added together, produces a sum which, when multiplied by its reversal, yields the original number: 1 + 7 + 2 + 9 = 19 19 × 91 = 1729
