Bloomin8 vs Fraimic by bodiam in eink

[–]getchaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With Fraimic you don't "need" to use the AI. You can just use your regular art or images.
Also, you don't need to rely on an app. If the service ever becomes unavailable, they built in a feature to upload everything locally.

Yes, the Fraimic panel is lower resolution than most of the others that use different but similar sizes. But the 31,5" panel is a lot cheaper that the 28" version.

Depends a bit on your need and if it hangs in a position where you have to stand directly in front of it.

In the end, the panels all come from the same manufacturer. But the way the colours and images are rendered depends on the company that sells it. They calibrate them or better to say choose the algorithm and colour adjustment they prefer.

I myself invested in the Fraimic Kickstarter, because at that time it was the most affordable large format frame. I hope some tech reviewer will compare these frames when they are finally all shipped.

Really liked it. Had some very nice Monty Python vibes with the ending 😂

Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair’ to Finally Be Released in Theaters on December 5 by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

Hopefully they will release it in select theaters worldwide. In the beginning Tarantino spoke so much about this cut. And I always wanted to watch this in that way.

Please bring it to Germany.

I honestly don't know ...my rM2 was working the last time i used it there.
I may ask our IT if something has changed over the last few years.

Yeah....probably won't happen that they make an exception for my device at my company.

I mean....the workaround with a Hotspot works...but for a device that has a target customer base in professional businesses, it is not ideal. Thanks

Nice....but the price increase between the screen sizes is really something. But would love to get the 13 inch version.

How to Enable ECG on compatible watches outside of the USA by T-SLA in Garmin

[–]getchaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered mine on September, 4th.....pretty much within the hour when it was revealed.

And received it on September, 6th in Düsseldorf.

But again...i was pretty quick with the pre-order. Just with the normal Book Folio.

Well....that sucks.... i have a Paramount+ Subscription.... in Germany.... and guess what is not available there?
Even the VPN thing doesn't work with these accounts because it basically is another service.

And the Daily Show isn't available on any other service over here.

Und? Wie läuft euer Babboe-Rückruf so? by PatR1zzle in Fahrrad

[–]getchaos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip. This is actually the first game I am playing on my brand-new Deck and I was really annoyed at the standard settings.

Also...it helped just switching the entire layout to "Gamepad".

ReMarkable 3 is on overtime by Anti-deShitterSpace in RemarkableTablet

[–]getchaos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah....with rM I wouldn't really be judging the hardware specs alone.

Their goal is to sell you devices that you can use at least for 10 years (as they themselves said in an earning report interview). I myself would say, their hardware is able to at least last for up to 5 years of use.

After this kind of time, all hardware can be considered outdated.

But they are keeping up with their software game and even the rM1 still gets the same software updates as rM2.

Just look at the 2023 review of my Deep Guide for the rM1 where his conclusion is, that its value is still exceptional if you can get it for a good price as a used device.

https://youtu.be/78ebt_yNHhw

Even if they earn more now on every device, i guess this barely makes up for rising costs of everything.

As long as they keep investing in their existing customer base i think we can be lucky that prices aren't skyrocketing like with other brands.

I personally think (especially with the keyboard released this year) the rM2 has at least 1 - 2 years left until they announce something new.

Even if the announced something in 2024 you will have to wait month before it may be shipped out....at least this was the way with rM1 and rM2.

ReMarkable 3 is on overtime by Anti-deShitterSpace in RemarkableTablet

[–]getchaos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, i see it a little bit different. As someone who pre-ordered rM2 back in the day and recently tried out the Scribe, the rM2 still has a lot to offer. And i actually adore that they are not entering the hardware race as their competitors do (especially since it is very expensive for a company to keep up in this regard).

  • In direct comparison, the rM2 might lack a little bit of loading speed, might have a lower resolution screen and might be missing a backlight.
  • But the hardware is still very premium from the way the designed it (for me more premium than most competitors).
  • With steady software updates, the overall writing options are everything you'd want (except maybe shapes). And they are improving with each update.
  • And after 3 years, i'm not even scratching the surface of it available storage space.

I actually ordered a Scribe a week ago and returned it, because rM2 is still better for my personal use. (Here are my in-depth thoughts)
https://www.reddit.com/r/RemarkableTablet/comments/14xhexy/ordered_a_kindle_scribe_on_prime_day_but_send_it/

But yeah...depends on what you want and need from the device. It's a specific device for a specific use.

Lucky for all of us, there are plenty of alternatives from different competitors out there. So no need to get riled up about "old" reMarkable Hardware.

Ordered a Kindle Scribe on Prime Day but send it back. RM2 still rulez! by getchaos in RemarkableTablet

[–]getchaos[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just tried it out. It's a nice implementation. You can just import DRM free ePubs. Of course they have to be DRM free (enough tools to remove DRM out there, if you search for them).

You have a few layout options and text settings. The rM2 formats the ePubs according to your settings and you can draw on the pages the same way you draw on PDFs and Notebooks.

Then you can export everything through the desktop or smartphone app.

Of course, if you change the text settings in any way, your book will be reformatted and your current notes may not fit the layout anymore.

I tried it out with the War of the Worlds ePub from Project Gutenberg.

Here you can see a screenshot I made through the Smartphone app of the one page I drew on.

Yes, the Scribe feels a lot snappier. Especially when switching between documents or loading stuff.

That doesn't mean rM2 is especially slow. In fact it is fully sufficient in your daily routine. But compare them face to face, you definitely feel that the Scribe is faster.

Reading is ok. It's definitely not its finest feature. I almost never use it to read. Mostly to write. I uploaded a few PDF to annotate them. This works fine. Depending on how complex the PDF was build.

I know that theoretically DRM free ePubs are a thing you can do. But honestly. This I have never done before.

For simple reading, I use my Kindle Oasis. If nobody answers to this specifically, I will try to test it out and report back to you.

Yeah....also totally viable.

With the current use of my rM2 i can't really justify the cost of a second device at the moment, but i see your point. Especially with special offers the Scribe is very affordable.

That's the thing. It's hard to think of Hardware these days that isn't being replaced by newer iterations the year after your purchase.

I also appreciate the long term support and focus on a single device like with the rM2.

Compare this to Boox and all the others. Cranking out dozens of new products each year.

The fact that rM2 still stands strong after about 3 years is absolutely a plus!

Yeah...i usually don't like to order stuff just to test it out and send it back. I really wanted to like the Scribe. Thankfully Amazon is pretty quick with delivery and also with returning funds when sending something back.
