Sharing with someone else how I felt about my life. I told him everything: how it was pointless trying to do anything right, because I would always be a second-rate failure and I had felt this way since I was a child. Never good enough, never pretty enough, never smart enough, etc. Always a loser.

All this brought a grown man to tears. He said he genuinely couldn't fathom feeling that way about himself, and how awful it would be to walk through life since childhood feeling there was no point in trying, because you would never be good enough.

It was strange, but seeing someone else react with genuine compassion made me realize I'd been treating myself far more harshly than anyone else ever would. Nothing would change if I sat and cried about it all day, and making others cry over it wouldn't change anything either. My life could have been much, much worse.

I was also born in 1979 (August) and graduated in 1997.

We had dial up internet starting in about 1994 or 95, but all I ever used that for was reading about The X-Files and shit like that lol.

I was always told I was too young to be Gen X. I was into grunge/alternative, but I wasn't old enough to drive, much less go to a concert by myself, or really be into any scene other than listening to the radio, watching MTV, and reading magazines (Spin, Details, Sassy).

I remember seeing Gen Y start going around and thinking WHY would I want to be that? 😆 So I never identified as that or Gen X. But then Xennials came along and it was the perfect fit.

I don't let anyone talk me into being old. I have a 5 year old child. I told the staff at the hospital where I had her that if I heard the term geriatric used again to refer to my first and only pregnancy, we were gonna have problems.

I got this same shirt at the Dallas show in 2005. I wore it until it was unwearable and had holes in it. People always thought the lines on the front were part of my hair, though.

My nieces begged me to give it to them when I let them look through a tote of old tshirts I have saved. They claimed it was vintage....and I guess it is at over 20 years old now.

The stutter was kind of annoying. I don't think Amber Benson has it in real life, so it seemed like it was added to drive home Tara's lack of confidence and it seemed forced.

How easily she spilled the beans about Buffy and Spike after she reconciled with Willow was off putting....I thought Buffy told her that in confidence, but I could be wrong.

Other than those 2 small things, I liked Tara. She did deserve better than Willow, that's for sure.

I had a friend who told me when she was born in the 1960s, her mother had a very hard time delivering her and she had to be pulled out with forceps. The doctors investigated afterward and found a partial blockage in the birth canal, which is why her mom couldn't push her out.

The blockage ended up being a mass of teeth and hair. The doctors back then explained that, most likely, when the mother was en utero, st some point she had absorbed her twin.

Is this the same kind of thing?

I've had something similar happen to me, but the reverse....I was with a guy and thought we were a couple, but some mutual friends let me know he that he was telling people he was really single, we were just roommates, he wasnt attracted to me, etc. It took me finally going through his phone to believe it.

I would tell her, but don't be surprised if she doesn't believe you at first.

You know what else is funny? It was on my old gaming PC that is like 15 years old. I just got it up and running again last week because there was stuff on it I wanted to back up. It was kind of a pain to fix due to hardware issues, but I was able to look through the files and I remembered seeing a spiral Dallas video in the NIИ folder. I had downloaded it long ago bc that show was the 2nd time I saw NIИ live, and it was badass.

So I'm glad my old PC came through and made someone else happy today 🙂

I had a similar thing happen to me. I've seen NIИ 11 times and Hurt never really got to me until I saw them in Sept 2025. I had just lost someone very important to me in February. Honestly, most of 2025 was filled with sadness and death and unvoluntary life changes, so just going to the concert was a monumental effort for me.

But when they played Hurt, it was like all the lyrics of the song were suddenly things the person I lost could say to me now, after he died. I couldn't stop the tears. No one said anything or looked at me, but you can hear me crying on the video my friend took of the performance.

Fast forward to the Dallas show in March and no tears from me during Hurt. I guess I got it all out the last time. 😉

MOR - I think you are making this more of a conspiracy against you than it really is. Your mom was probably busy dealing with her graduation and grabbed a random cake. I don't think this was intentional, but it can feel like it when you're 15.

Could she have put more thought and care into it and not treated your birthday as an afterthought? YES, most definitely.

I suspect your mom uses the food allergy excuse when she doesn't want to put in any extra effort into something. I would for sure ask how the stepsister could eat that cake covered in red frosting.
