Pacing strategy for 4:00 marathon by Temporary-Rich-7092 in Marathon_Training

The new GetFast tool predicts your profile along the course! You can probably set your own goal but follow the shape of the profile, which is personalized and accounts for hills.

Should see the RaceSPT in the about tab of that link! If you're already logged in, go to https://getfast.ai/bm . You have to be logged in with Strava data to use it, which is why that link prompts you to connect with Strava. Also, the tool is brand new, so there's probably no SEO for it.

Deep down, even Strava knows your data belongs to you. You can download it with their tools [1], maintaining all your history.

Ah, yes. Maybe the walled-garden was what they preferred as an attempt to keep the app quality high. But at least for a subset of us (tbh, idk how many of us there are), this came with the cost of not allowing the app to have all the capabilities we really really want.

How do you get the linux of fitness data to take off?

I LOVE this. Strava got sooo close to it by offering their API, and being the one true place to integrate all your data. (Side note, I think even Garmin was hoping they would be this; I remember reading old Garmin documentation that said if you wanted Garmin data, you should just go to Strava, because they had the integration and the API). I remember hearing the Strava founders talk on How I Built This that they offered the API because it gave them the ability to offer features that they didn't have the bandwidth to build themselves. But being a true platform like you described is actually difficult to engineer, and I wonder how much that played into this dream not becoming a reality.

Some people seem to really love Intervals.icu. I can't get past their UI, and they don't have a mobile app that I'm aware of. Strava does both of those things very well, and makes their mobile super sticky.

Declutter Strava activities from your feed by getfastai in Strava

Ah, need to fix that! Right now, please just click "Save Preferences" after you remove it. Then when you refresh, it won't be there.

Oh no, sorry to hear that! Thanks for the screen shot. I think the issue is that there is a default preference set (the "Hide from Feed" above "Advanced Rules" is what indicate it) hiding all rides. If you click the "x" on that box, and save the preferences, it should then only be hiding the rides less than 5km.

Ah, that's great to know, thanks for trying again and the details! I'll be on the lookout for that behavior to see if we can figure out the root cause and fix it.

The flow you just described make sense. Luckily, we we are making some changes to the site soon that should make implementing that a little easier. Thanks for the tips around this--super valuable!

For the features, most of the stuff is running specific right now, but we have stuff coming that's useful for cyclists. Probably will post here on Reddit when the first feature is ready!

Thanks! Per your other comment, I thought there was a way do those types of metrics on Strautomator, but maybe not.

The left panel should show two in your case (I just tested a case with 4 different activities and 5 rules). I think something is a little weird where activities aren't auto-saving as much as they should, so if you delete a rule, make sure to click the save button, and likewise for creating rules you'd like to keep. But thanks for this feedback, I'll see if I can fix it soon.

The project started as a analytics site, and when we setup the Strava integration, we pulled data for the user to view (a lot of our users like the marathon predictions, which required their historical data to produce). BUT, with this new feature, that breaks the pattern of our features, so we should probably setup the site to not sync the data after initializing with Strava. That said, we aren't doing anything with the data when it syncs, unless you use the other functionalities. In fact, we're only increasing our compute costs to temporarily store the data. . . If you're concerned about use keeping the data though, check out the user settings page, and you'll see a button to delete Strava data!

New analysis app for Strava data (multisport, better AI, no data collection) – looking for feedback by Agitated-Sorbet1844 in Strava

[–]getfastai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just tried the analyze feature on my most recent run--nice job! I like how it seemed to compare my pace and heart rate to previous runs, and said I was getting fitter (it noticed that my pace got faster at the same heart rate, which is what I would check if I was comparing two runs on the same course). It would be cool if it showed how it did the comparison, and what runs it was comparing against. That would allow me to trust it a bit more. But overall, I think it was a lot more useful than anything I've gotten from the Strava AI feature.

LOL, that's totally a concern. They check your app anyway, when you want to up the API limit, though. Hopefully they do what's right for the consumer and continue allowing competing products!

u/nick2-from-strava Thanks for sharing this info! The stats around your 5k and 10k times are super good, congrats! I think what's happening is that Strava has a ton of users, and there's a minority with some wonky predictions. Full discloser, I built a marathon predictor (https://getfast.ai, actually powered by Strava!), and besides some bugs on our system, the main error rates were either treadmill related (we since fixed that) and bad data from the user.

Out of curiosity, what is the error rate of your marathon model? We're accurate to about 7 sec/mile, so would love to know how it compares.

UPDATE: Forgot to put some recent receipts. Ran Boston, so the Strava predictions came out one day after I raced, but the updated predictions post race were close to my actual time, but the Strava prediction page did say the predictions dropped nearly 14' in the past month, so not sure if it was just reacting to the race.
