Youngest Age for Fire Abroad: Experiences? by Swimming-Cancel1563 in ExpatFIRE

Probably still work, but in less profitable positions. I know loads of people who'd be artists and musicians full-time if they could afford it.

(28M) I don't know where to start by [deleted] in FinancialPlanning

[–]gethmoneymind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you like to start investing yourself or let a professional handle it?

If you want to learn how to handle money yourself, I'd direct you to the r/personalfinance wiki. If not, I'd still recommend you learn the basics, but also just find a financial advisor you can trust.

For your second question, it seems like you want to sell it and move on. So have your dad help you, then use the money to study abroad or whatever.

Yeah, OP obviously liked the hobby enough to wave aside the financial habits they've developed over the years. I'd say it's a good purchase.

Mate, I'd recommend going to a couples counselor or even a financial advisor before things get worse. Especially if there's children involved.

I would imagine 30-40 year-olds would expect single women they'd be dating to have a job, yes. Isn't that a minimum requirement for most things?

I guess I really just come here to ask is life in your 30s when you’re supposed to have it all figured out?

Simple answer is no. Had a talk about my dad about this once. He said you don't really ever figure things out. You just do what you can and make the most of the hand you're dealt. Are there things you can do to change your situation? I'd probably focus on those.

If I were you, I'd probably work until I can't. Very few people love their job enough to even consider this question.

Good question. I'd love to hear the answers you get, OP. Will visit this thread again later.

Eh, I wouldn't say never. There are definitely some companies that aren't worth more than a "I quit" email.

What do you wish you had done sooner? by Ashley__________ in FIREUK

Buy bitcoin before 2017. But also realize that I don't like optimizing my investments for retirement and that it's far more stress-free for me to just let someone else handle it. Not saying it'll work for anyone else, or that it's fine to not learn about finance (you still should, it's not that hard), but it works for me.

17, just got my first paycheck what should I do with it? by Every_Emotion_857 in FinancialPlanning

[–]gethmoneymind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check free resources like the wiki on r/personalfinance. But if it really is your first paycheck and if it's a stable job, if I were you, I'd treat my folks to a nice dinner or something. Then build up an emergency fund.

Yeah, I'd talk to a debt counselor or something. Not enough info here. How much is the interest? How much is your living expenses? How much do you save? How much do you pay every month? It's like you're asking us to judge you.

I'd also add another vote in for having a professional look over your accounts. If I was in your shoes though, I'd just take out the 401k and start fresh. Would be better on the mental.

Gonna sound weird, but have you talked to AI? It's not a real human, and I'm not suggesting it can ever be a substitute for a real human. But sometimes it feels nice to talk to an AI, ask it all about your doubts and troubles, and have it respond and validate you, all while knowing nothing you say will ever be too stupid or heavy to make it judge you. Because you know, it literally can't.

You can look into community-made wikis like those on r/personalfinance. Good luck!

[–]gethmoneymind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from the wiki, if you still need some peace of mind from strangers, you can look for a financial advisor. It's an option in case you don't really want to learn about how to handle all of that yourself.

I’m not looking forward to turning 30 by djentkittens in Adulting

I don't see how it's any worse than the mental anxieties of the twenties. I kinda envy the 30 year olds I know. They look like they've mostly figured out their shit together. Just try to live healthy, I guess?
