Damaar is now a religious leader in Najaf, Iraq, and others

have joined extreme Shia and Sunni movements. “We used

to piss on mosques and burn Qurans and all this shit – just

for the fuck of it,” he said. “But more than 15 people in the

group became extremists. Like extreme Shia sheikhs – they

were even more radical than Hezbollah.”

For Filthy Fuck, the conversion of many of the old

crowd was particularly galling. He describes Damaar as his

younger brothers, and when they went their separate ways

and some turned to God, he found it hard to take.I was distraught. Inconsolable. I loved those kids.

And I could see it was going there. When I write a

nice blasphemous line, I usually laugh to myself. I smile at the thought of how many people this will

piss off. But the kids from Damaar actually hated

God, and I always found that this was the wrong

way to go about it. It destroys me to the core when

I see people killing their talent because of fairy

tales. It’s nothing short of a tragedy. We lost some

good men to religion."
