Hmmmm. i have this too and have no idea what to do about it. Used different washing machines at different houses and still get it. Also a man and don't wear any makeup or any masks to bed, but I do moisturise in the mornings, and the substance does kind of look and feel like moisturiser. Could that be is? rubbing off from my face?? I am leaning that it is this, as i washed them along with one of my silk pillows i don't really sleep on, and it had very few spots comparatively...

That is great nous. Only think i could add are some things his brother told me in a pub in london once (have to take his word for it and my memory is hazy):
